Chapter 81 by henrytemp

Do Sayen and Alex join them or do something else?

Something else?

As they put the last dish away, Sayen noticed Alex's shirt was all wet.

"You can't go out like that," she said, sauntering up to him. She reached down and lifted his shirt up. As it started over his head, she grabbed the neckline, causing it to stop, covering his eyes. As he started to speak she leaned in, her lips...

"There they are," Alex said seeing the group moving ahead of them.

"What's that platform for?" Sayen said, shaking herself out of her fantasy. His shirt had been wet in the kitchen, but she'd merely tossed him a towel to dry off.

"Ohhh you'll see," Alex said smiling. He then turned and jogged to catch up to them. Sayen did the same.

"Nice of..." Bianca caught herself starting to be sarcastic. "I'm glad you two joined us for this, she corrected herself and attempted a half-smile at Sayen, still feeling guilty. "Okay guys, this is the trust fall. We each take turns standing on the platform, falling backwards, and hoping the others catch us."

As Bianca continued to explain how to cross your arms and keep yourself stiff as you fall, Makayla kept staring at the platform, then slowly started backing up until she accidentally bumped into someone. She stiffened for a moment, then relaxed as she felt hands on her shoulders in a familiar way.

"You'll be okay. I promise," Alex said. It was the first words he'd spoken to her since the fight, and she wanted nothing more than to bury her face into his chest, and hold him.

"I just... if they start mocking me..."

"I got you covered," he said reassuringly.

As Bianca finished up and people started shuffling around, they awkwardly separated and went to opposite sides of he platform. No one else had noticed their little interaction. Makayla looked to him one more time and he nodded.

"I'll go first!" Erik yelled out, quickly scaling the ladder to the platform. He then joked around like he was going to dive on them.

"Hey, no stealing my moves," Axe said.

"I will let you fall," Brian added with a laugh.

Finally Erik got serious and let himself fall. As they caught him and let him down, he put his arm around Makayla to stand up straight. Brian was next. He quickly got on the platform and got it over with, no joking around for him.

"Who's next?" Bianca asked.

"How about you Alex?" Sayen blurted out.

"Oh no, I'm not ready yet," he said, suddenly serious.

Erik let out a snarky laugh.

"I'll go," Gaby volunteered.

Her fall went fine and she was followed by Axe. Axe mimicked Eric and threatened to dive.

"Now you I will catch," Brian said to everyone's amusement.

"Rock, paper, scissors?" Sayen said to Bianca. Bianca nodded. However she lost when she put down rock to Sayen's paper. She was glad, however, that Sayen seemed to have forgiven her, at least temporarily.

After Bianca finished, Sayen turned to Alex and asked him the same question. He just stared at her with a scared look.

"Fine, I'll go, but YOU ARE NEXT," she said, patting him on the arm.

After Sayen finished, Alex took a deep breath and climbed the ladder. He took his position, then looked over his shoulder. He then stepped away from the edge.

"Oh come on!" Erik blurted out.

"Probably best to just go and not look down," Bianca added.

"You can do it," the others said, cheering him on. He took his position again, stepped to the edge then...

"I'm sorry, I can't," he said, quickly climbing down.

"It's okay," Sayen tried to comfort him.

"Geez, dude," Erik mockingly said.

"It's okay, I'll go," Makayla said with a sudden burst of confidence.

"Well this explains a lot," Erik started in again, but this time was stopped by a smack from Brian. Erik felt bad for his comments, not because of Alex, but because he had taken his eye off the prize. Last thing he wanted was to overdo it and push Makayla away.

As they passed each other Alex nodded to Makayla and quickly squeezed her hand, which went unnoticed by the others. Makayla took a deep breath herself and climbed up the platform. She noticed Alex had positioned himself to be where her back would fall, thereby taking the brunt of her weight. She backed up to the edge. She was tempted to look but remembered what Bianca, said. She closed her eyes and slowly let herself fall backwards.

Alex watched her go, and was proud of her. He knew how afraid of heights she was, and the trust issues she'd dealt with didn't help. He made sure when she fell into his arms she wasn't going to go anywhere. But as she bounced her eyes suddenly shot wide open and she turned to Erik who had a smirk on his face. Erik maneuvered himself to be the one to hold her last as she sat up out of Alex's arms. Alex noticed her blushing as she moved to the back of the group.

"I'm sorry dude, for giving you a hard time. You want to try again," an almost sincere Erik asked Alex, but he saw right through him. Makayla was going to go talk to him, but Sayen stepped in first. She looked him in the eye.

"You can do this, I know you can," she said. Alex smiled back at her and headed to the ladder. That smile, Sayen thought. She looked to Makayla who was taking deep breaths and calming herself down, then back to Alex on the platform. Wow, she thought. She watched Alex get nervous again, but this time as he stood on the edge he let himself fall.

"Great job!" Erik said patting him hard on the back before turning his attention to Makayla. "You coming to the party cabin later?" he asked.

Makayla thought about her plans for the evening then looked to Alex who she was disappointed to see had walked off with Sayen.

"I might," she responded.

"I hope so," Erik said with a look that made her feel suddenly very warm.

"See, told you that you could do it," Sayen said as she walked him away from the others. "There's just something that confuses me," she added looking him straight in the eyes.

"Oh?" Alex responded innocently.

"When we got here you were rather excited, then..."

"Well sometimes you think you know your lines, then you get on stage and..."

"That was quite the stage," Sayen responded knowingly. She saw his eyes get sad and turned to see what he was looking at. She leaned in to whisper in his ear. "You are a good guy, I know it, she knows it. I mean what you just did for her... THAT, is a distraction for a hurt and confused young lady. He's not even in your league. Alex looked to her and **** a smile. They then turned and walked quietly back to the cabins, the others following behind.

What happen's when they get back?
