How's that go?
Some answers
It's a solid building: Sandstone facing, roll down steel shutters over the windows (currently open), and the roof looks like it's ceramic... what little of it you can see under the solar paneling. There's also cameras that look hastily installed: The wiring is exposed and held in place with what amounts to staples. Well... at least that means you can get some privacy with a bit of work.
A speaker crackles to life as you look around, "Sorry about this," your boss's voice begins, "...but I couldn't say no. They'd have killed me, and I'm not being figurative."
"They're desperate," you sigh.
There's about a three second pause, "Dying men tend to be, yes," your... ex-boss?... confirms. "I'm afraid that while the building has an internet connection, you're on a communications blackout: No cell phones, tablets, laptops, or workstations to connect. The top twenty streaming services are live on the living room TV, though."
You take a slow breath... getting angry won't help here... "Good to know. How stocked is the place?"
Another three seconds... so you're probably dealing with satellite internet... "Walk in freezer has fruits, veggies, and meat for about a month... for fifteen people, so a year or so. Basement has about ten years' worth of vacuum sealed dry goods for fifteen people, so a decade and a half. There's a cistern collecting rainwater, but the place was designed for five guests and ten servants full time, so as long as you're not just running the hose outside all night or some such you'll be fine in that regard," you can almost hear him cringe. "Food and water aren't really the problem, obviously."
"Can't have your lab rat starve," you take a slow deep breath.
Another three seconds to the reply, "I am sorry," he answers.
Shaking your head, you try the door handle, and... yes, it opens.
You walk into a spacious and luxurious living room, with a TV screen that looks like it belongs in a theater, with surround sound speakers... oh, and a blue-ray player... and a box of 3d glasses? Oh, and the same hastily-installed cameras everywhere. Well... expensive.
You think a moment, "Let me guess: One of the board member's personal hideaways?"
Five seconds this time... "...I suppose the cameras are obvious. Yes. We needed an island because the nanites can't take salt water, so if things go too horribly wrong here, you're the only one who'll die."
'Unless they're inside a host...' you consider. "Just where am I?"
Six seconds... "I don't know. Somewhere in the Atlantic. The integration protocol suspends consciousness for a day.."
You interrupt with "Sixteen hours."
...and he keeps going on with, "and they just took you to the..." he pauses for the length of time you spoke, confirming the transmission delay, "Right, I just mentally filed it as a day. Regardless: Food, water, entertainment, observation, and isolation."
"Heavy isolation, it seems," you speak through gritted teeth.
Three seconds and... "Well... you're right to be concerned about the 'end of humanity' thing with self-replicating nanites. They're desperate to live, but they're not quite ready to risk extinction on a maybe."
"They'd die too, after all," ... need to keep the anger down.
Three seconds, "Yeah, my thought too."
"So what's my sentence?" You brace for the answer.
