Solving a problem

I got there as soon as I could, the workers unable to even stay on the job site as this team of villains had apparently tried to send them running. To see the builders basically just hanging around just outside the property waiting to be able to continue work was interesting unexpected. I didn't bother with putting on my mask or letting slip I had powers, though I did have quite a few summons moving quietly around the place when I headed inside. I already knew where they were located, so I just walked in...

I first encountered a short young man that was bald, he laughed at the fact I'd basically walked into their new hideout. Apparently he found it funny... Right until I said I wanted to hire them as security so this wouldn't happen again. He collapsed to the floor for another minute with laughter, struggling to breathe until a young woman with pink hair came into the room and asked just how much I was willing to pay. I had to admit, she looked damn good for someone that had likely only recently turned 20.

"Well for one thing your not the first ones to have done this, the last one's were sent by someone to cause me trouble and it barely slowed me down. What I want is to hire your entire group to keep this from happening again. If your squatting in a building that isn't even HALFWAY done being built then things have to be BAD. I'm guessing a lack of jobs coming in, or perhaps your rep's taken too many hits from your conflicts with the Titans?" I explained and asked, needless to say they were a bit annoyed to be reminded of that. "I'm not a local to this area, but that info isn't hard to learn about. You know what would be hilarious though? Having a legitimate job when the Titans show up to try and put you back in prison, only for them to have to APOLOGIZE to you for disturbing your work place." THAT got their attention. The huge and hairy guy was laughing, but the bald guy shook his head.

"Yeah it's funny alright, but no WAY am I breaking my back with a 9 to 5 for minimum wage! I'm a tech genius! I'm not gonna WASTE my talents like that." I turned to him quick upon hearing that, before bringing out a single piece of Uru from my pocket. "Oh? A genius hmm? Tell me what you think of this then." Before I held it out to him, I made sure he couldn't simply grab it of course. He rolled his eyes before scanning it with a device only for his jaw to drop and his eyes to widen. "H-hang on! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!" He shouted out as he practically leaped at it, but I did put it away and back into my inventory before he could grab it. "THAT is one of the materials I can let you work with if you were to work with me. There's others of course but that's the only thing your seeing until we have a deal made. Jinx right? If your wondering whether or not I can afford to pay your team, look up my company. Nexus Holdings." Apparently my companies reputation preceded it, cause I saw her eyes widen rather quickly. I could have sworn I saw Billy Numerous' eyes turn to dollar signs for a moment.

From there Jinx began to talk like she was taking my offer seriously, the others trying to figure out exactly what they wanted from the deal. I offered to treat them to a meal so we could talk and the workers outside could continue their job. Surprisingly they agreed. Getting a restaurant to serve them was a bit tough, due to the destruction they'd caused but they were certainly able to eat well. Negotiations went pretty well from there, they were surprised to be offered as much as they were given their history and of course that this would be a legitimate job rather than something criminal like they were used too. I explained everything I could about the job, offered them benefits far better than they would have got normally, including offering to help them get stronger or to set up Gizmo with a REAL lab in his case. It took a few hours but eventually they were all on board with it, I explained that it would take about a day to get everything set up and a contract brought by but once it was signed they'd have stable income and would be entrusted with the safety of the site. The best part? If the Titans showed up to try and arrest them, they could say they were there doing the job they were legally hired for. Long as they didn't FIGHT the Titans then they wouldn't be the ones in trouble, the Titans would be! Needless to say they were quite happy about that, Jinx did help explain more things to them.

After I left I made sure the work continued and was able to actually get the contract to them only a few hours later, thanks to teleportation that is. Oh! Speaking of teleportation, I'd learned that my ability to teleportation was actually SEPARATE from my elemental summons. It was called Shadow Teleport, and apparently let me teleport through the shadow's themselves, as long as no one was looking in that location. THAT last part wasn't something I'd known about before, but it was helpful to know I had such a quick method of travel available to me. I'd need to be careful to not use it often though, couldn't risk someone finding out about that ability. If possible of course.

Anyways I decided to spend the night in Jump City, ended up getting hold of a penthouse suite. I had called to explain to the builders that Jinx and her team would be hanging around to be a security team for the site to stop anyone else from pulling the same stunt they had, aside from that they shouldn't get in the way and I even offered them bonus pay if they could offer assistance.

By the time morning came I was happy to hear they'd signed the contracts and met them around breakfast, where I tossed an early attempt to help feed Mammoth his way. A protein bar I'd set up my lab to make the night before, a teleport there and back had allowed me to bring it fresh to him. It gave his body a huge surge of calories, a little over 4000 calories to be exact. Billy was crying tears of joy thinking that food bills would go down with this creation. "I'll do my best to get more made soon as I can, it'll take some time to get it fully in production though so please understand that'll take a bit of time to get set up." I explained to Mammoth, assuring them that I should be able to make more and can hopefully get it to them soon.

Following that I was able to get a supply started on production of the protein bars, the job site wasn't disturbed again by people trying to squat on the property, and the best part? By the end of that 3rd month after the failed invasion, things were slowly returning to normal. Unfortunately practically the very next morning the Justice League got a distress call...
