So... where's the room?

I glanced over Carla, and was still stunned by how much she resembled my wife. The appearance was uncanny. Right down to the makeup.

"How long does it take you to do that?" I asked, walking up to her.

"That... sounds like a pick up line? What's the answer? Break my heart? Fall to Earth From Heaven?" Carla's face took on an amused smile.

"I was actually asking about the makeup," I explained. "But If you want a pick up line I can always go with my standard. Ahem. Hi, feel like having a conversation with a total stranger?"

"Does that actually work?" Carla asked with a chuckle.

"It worked on your sister," I shrugged. "Don't really want to talk about her right now... or mine, for that matter."

"Younger sisters... yeah, I know. Always getting into trouble. Hey, are we actually going to the room?" Carla stood, brushing a leaf that had fallen from one of the nearby trees off her knee. "Because, this really isn't the place I'd like to be having this discussion."

"Well, you know where it is," I pointed out, to her immediate nod. She led me through a series of small halls that branched off from the main lobby, where the staff seemed to pay little to no notice of us save for a rather attractive young woman at the front desk whose gaze seemed to linger on Carla.

"I see what you mean," I said quietly as she paused in front of one of the numbered doors, fishing a card from her pocket.

"About the gal at the front desk, right?" Carla remarked. "Yeah, she's cute. There we go..."

Carla pushed open the door to reveal something that looked straight out of a romance novelist's fantasy. The entire room was done up in a light brown that was accented with white running boards. The very large Bed had been recently made, and apart from a small bag already set in the corner, the entire place looked warm and welcoming. Hell it even had a fireplace, the wood already laid and set. My eyes immediately flew to the huge glass windows at the far end and the balcony which overlooked the ocean.

I stepped inside rapidly, and walked to the glass doors, sliding them open and stepping out onto the balcony. Below me the surf crashed against rocks, and the light blue green of the water sent sprays into the air. All around the trees were a thick rich green, and off to my right I could see an unoccupied hot tub on a small patio which overlooked the ocean.

"Ohhhkay, this beats the pants off the cabin." I whistled softly, "I am not even going to ask how much this cost." I looked back over my shoulder at where Carla stood.

"Good. It wasn't cheap," Carla admitted. She shut the door behind herself and crossed to a small table with two chairs which sat near the fireplace. "I don't... I don't know even know where to start."

"Well, we could start with... By the way in or out here?" I liked the balcony, but if she wanted to stay inside.

"Out... actually. Shit..." Carla began. "I keep... FUCK." She took a deep breath as she stepped to the railing. Her hands grasped it tightly. "I keep wanting to talk about Kaila. Because she's the only thing we really have in common."

"Well, we never talk about anything else," I pointed out, thinking about the few conversations we HAD enjoyed with her not playing her sister.

"Oh, we talk about what she likes all the time. I hate to tell you this Brent, but I hate Joss Whedon's stuff. " Carla sighed. "I really do not give a shit about it. Show's been dead for almost ten years. Time to move on."

"Ouch... OUCH..." I slapped my hand over my heart. "You're going right for the kill on this one, aren't you?"
