The Kaila Conversation

"Ok... we're gonna be here all night." I breathed in the air, leaning against the metal railing. "You want to get the Kaila conversation done NOW, or right at the end?"

"Now," Carla pointed a single finger at me. "Get it over with. I know this conversation's going to suck, so no point in drawing it out." She mimed holding a pistol to her head and made a "Blam" noise.

"I hope it's not going to be THAT bad," I shrugged. "But yeah, let's have it out then. Why do you stick with her?"

"Wait, that's MY question," Carla looked at me with a quizzical glance before shaking her head and looking back at the ocean. "I suppose, because she's my twin isn't a good enough reason."

"Not really," I agreed. "If I had a brother who constantly wanted to play jokes on my wife, well, I have to admit I'd wonder about him."

"I still keep hoping you have one hidden around here," Carla smiled. "Would be so much easier for me."

"Right. So, now that you've dodged the question, just so you know, I'm on to how you two operate now..." I smirked at her.

"I guess you are catching on," Carla nodded. "Yeah, it's amazing how fast people forget that you changed the subject when you've got a twin. Especially when you can just ask each other a different question and answer it, thus giving the satisfaction of an answered question without any actual information."

"Wait, run that by me again..." I tried to follow the logic, but she was talking far faster than Kaila.

"I thought it was pretty clear," Carla spoke again, turning to face me. "Essentially, the concept is when you ask each other a question, and answer it, the person trying to get information thinks that you answered their question, and if you keep talking, they forget that they even asked it, if you play it right."

"Uhm... Carla, that's..." I began, ok, that was actually making sense. Wait, what was my question? "You just did it to me, didn't you?"

"See. Works pretty good. Now imagine doing that with a twin who you've worked out signals with beforehand. Almost as good as not speaking the language for getting someone to leave you alone."

"Is that the kind of thing you do at the events?" I racked my brain, trying to remember the initial question I'd asked her. Shit, it wasn't... something about... "AAAANND before I forget, why are you still with your sister? There it is!"

"Damn, thought I got away with that one," Carla smiled. "Would you care to play questions?"

"Well, that is a fun game, but maybe..."
