Chapter 6 by Gamma Boötis Gamma Boötis

You decide to:

Sleep the rest of the ride

Moving again, you decide to stretch and try to get some more shut eye. It takes a while, but eventually you manage it, drifting off to sleep to the lullaby of the rails and the slow rocking of the train car.

It’s dark out the window when you are startled awake by the conductor shaking your shoulder saying something to you.

“What?” You ask, blinking bleary eyed at them.

“Your stop is coming up hun.” They say, hazarding a smile.

“Oh.” You mutter, unpeeling your face from the window glass and stretching. You’re shocked with how well you slept in such an awkward position. “Thanks.”

“You're always welcome hun.” States the conductor and walks away down the aisle. You slowly start to pack up your belongings, gather your bags from the overhead rack and make your way to the doors at the end of the car.

“Approaching Midway Station, Midway Station.” The intercom rattles off.

“There’s no place like home.” You state as the lights of town appear out the window, first the grain elevators, then the gas stations, and finally the lights of the downtown as the train slows. You hear the doppler whine as the train passes by level crossings with their flashing lights and clanging bells. You watch as the town depot and platform slides into view before you. Then the train lurches and then halts. The train car doors open and you step out into the cold night air.

Home again, Home again―
