His internal victory dance was cut short as he heard the bell signalling the end of class. Rather than going to have his break as usual, though, he headed straight to June’s art studio. The studio wasn’t far from the workshop though, so when he arrived students were still filtering out.

Once everyone had exited the classroom, John entered, closing the door behind him. “Morning June, uhm… I was hoping I could ask you for another favour,” he said, nervously rubbing the back of his head.

John smiled. “Thanks, June.” He quickly made his way out of class. As he raced towards the entrance he ordered an Uber.

Getting out at the bus stop across the street from Ellie’s hotel, he looked at it as if to study it but then reached out and touched it.

“That all? Sure, dump the stuff anywhere, so long as you plan to come get it back at some point.” Ellie motioned into the room.

John turned the knapsack inside out over a coffee table causing all the items to spill out. Before doing anything else, he willed his Savvy Merchant Attire to change out of his school clothing, and after some shifting and shimmering, it looked like an ordinary pair of jeans and a t-shirt .

“Not exactly, it’s a Knapsack of Holding, which I’d guess is a smaller version of an actual bag of holding,” John corrected.

Ellie waved her arm at him dismissively. “Close enough.” She quickly grabbed the closest thing she could find, which was the TV remote, and tossed it into the bag before looking inside. She then pushed her hand into the bag and pulled the remote back out before jumping up and down squealing and clapping.

She then rushed at John, mashing her lips against his. “Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou,” she cheered.

John laughed at her excitement. “It’s not a problem, Ellie, I think you’ll need it with your new alchemy stuff, especially if you are going to be carrying potions and stuff, this will make it much easier.”

“It definitely will. Ooh, I should go put the stuff I made last night in here, shouldn’t I?” Before he could answer she’d dashed off into another room, which after craning his neck he realised was the bedroom.

As quickly as she’d vanished, she appeared again. “Okay I’m ready. Can we go now? Wait, where are we actually going to go?” she asked.

“Well, we have about 3 hours, so I was thinking we’d head to the wooded area of the park,” John suggested.

A pained expression crossed Ellie’s face for a second before she nodded. “Sure, sounds good.”

The walk was mostly silent but John could see the wonder on Ellie’s face as she continually studied her new bag. John did have to tell her more than once not to pull things out of it, but she just laughed and said that she forgot.

Entering the park Ellie took hold of John’s hand, no longer playing with her bag. They walked through and John noticed her grip tighten as they passed the bathrooms.

“Are you okay? We don’t need to be here if you don’t want to be,” John reassured her.

“I’m fine… I hate to think what could have happened, but the reality is that you saved me. It does make me feel really uneasy thinking that he is still out there somewhere though, but it was so dark I didn’t even get a look at him, so what could I even say to the police if we went?” Ellie’s voice shook slightly.

John couldn’t really think of an answer; he wasn’t sure he’d be able to describe the guy either and he couldn’t exactly tell the police that the guy had attacked him and broke his nose and arm, could he? He had no physical evidence because his bones had healed almost instantly.

Instead, John wrapped his arm around Ellie, and she leaned into him. They both continued walking until they passed the spot John had used to practice Move that day.

The area they had found themselves in was just in view of a bridge, a little ways into the woods. They both took a deep breath as John used Create Barrier.
