Chapter 7 by BlunderBussy BlunderBussy

What is Claire’s next course of action?

Sit down and evaluate her situation

A part of Claire wanted to leave this hunted building of the past and find Owen and safety, but a more rational part of her told her to stop and calm down. She was in high distress and she needed to think rationally. Just like in a meeting with investors, you go in on a whim without a game plan or a way to survive, you’re dead in the water. ‘Plan your steps Claire’ she remind herself.

Steadily, she walked over to one of the undamaged walls in the visitor centre. A solid chunk of roof laid by one of the walls which Claire sat down upon. Getting as comfortable as she could, she took in a deep breath and steadied her thoughts. She looked up at the roof, at the light coming in, and winced. The angle of the light and the sun told her it was morning. Owen and she left the Command Centre at mid-noon. Claire couldn’t believe she was **** for a day and night!

The knowledge brought with it horror. She should’ve been found by now! A rescue team should’ve gotten her out of here and she should be in the infirmary. Why wasn’t she?! Her terror grew as thought about Owen. Did… did he die? Was he killed by the Indominus? Claire looked around and saw no bloodshed or any… evidence of Owen. She did see the other side of the visitor centre had a new dinosaur-sized hole in it. Did he escape? If so, why didn’t he come back and rescue her?

Sadness and horror were a volatile mixture. Claire couldn’t help but think about Owen leaving her to die. No! He wouldn’t do that! Yes, he was a crass idiot who didn’t know what manners even if they hit him in the face, but he was honourable. He wouldn’t leave her to die. He might have thought she was crushed by the debris but checking her vitals at the Command Centre should show Owen and the Park’s team that she was still alive. Claire reasoned that he must’ve spent his time looking for her nephews and getting them to safety. She hopes he did. She could never live with herself if her sister’s children were to die under her supervision. ‘Ok, even if Owen was tied up rescuing my nephews, why didn’t he or the others send for a rescue team to come and get me?’ Claire pounded.

Slowly she came to the realisation that had her turning pale and grim. The Asset, the Indominus, was still out of containment! It’s still out there!

Claire eased her panic and began thinking of ways to escape back to civilisation and safety. There was no way to communicate with Central. She was in a satellite dead zone and the old phones here didn’t work. She had the thermal power plants commissioned during the original Jurassic Park direct power away from the Visitor Centre and to Jurassic World. There was no way she could get a cell operational here or find a way to call for help. The jeeps in the garage are a no go and any other form of transpiration was nowhere to be found. That meant Claire had to leg it to Command on foot. A huge problem Claire realised was that there were several kilometres of dense jungle in between her and Command. While there is a rampaging monster out there, this was still the tropics: home to poisonous snakes and disease-riddled insects. Trekking in that barefoot was a **** sentence.

Claire knew that the alternative was to wait here for Owen or a team to extract her. The old Visitor Centre was the only shelter for miles, but it wasn’t impregnable. The Indominus proved that it was more than willing to collapse the building to try and eat its prey. Still, if she could find somewhere in the building to hide, then she was safe to wait out the Indominus’ capture and containment, then wait for her rescue.

Claire weighed her options carefully.

What does Claire do now?
