Silence

Laura couldn't ask her son to hold her that night. Not after everything that happened. They had a quiet, but awkward night as Dan played on his phone. She lay in bed, just scrolling through her phone. She felt terrible but didn't know what to say. The next morning, she woke to being the small spoon. Unfortunately, it didn't help her mood.

She lay in bed as Dan got ready for work and ate breakfast in silence. After he left, she got up and took a warm shower as her thoughts spun out of control. She got out of the shower and dressed for the day, careful to pick clothes that made her look professional.

A beep on her phone made her look up from her small breakfast of eggs and bacon.
