What's next?
Sickbay
After being poked and prodded by the Doctor for hours and giving countless blood samples, tissue samples, urine samples, and even vaginal fluid samples, all you want to do is get some sleep. That's hard to do when you're in sickbay, laying on a bio-bed with only a thin sheet covering your naked body. Now that you think about it, you've spent most of the day either naked or barely clothed. You would think that would help you get used to your feminine figure, but it hasn't. Maybe if you can just go to sleep, you'll wake up in your regular body and realize this was all just a dream. As hard as you try though, you just can't get comfortable with these damn boobs getting in the way every time you roll over. It doesn't help at all that Calhoun is resting peacefully on the next bed over. His girlfriend, Crewman Patterson, standing beside his bed, hardly leaving his side since being brought to sickbay, made things even more awkward. Listening to him confess to her what he did to you in that cell certainly didn't help either.
Just as you're finally beginning to doze off, the doors to the medical lab slide open with an irritatingly familiar shhhk. Sitting up and letting the sheet fall to your lap out of an absolute lack of giving a fuck about modesty, you stare irritatedly in the direction of the open door to see the Doctor walk toward you with a blonde nurse following closely behind him and fem-Spock, now wearing a properly fitting blue-skirt uniform, taking up the rear. The nurse discreetly gestures for you to cover yourself with the sheet, but the Doctor and the Vulcan seem completely unfazed by your bare breasts so you don't bother. With mild exasperation, she shakes her head and gives up her silent efforts.
"What's up, Doc?" you say without even a hint of humor in your voice.
"Well, I have some good news, and I have some... complicated news," the Doctor said in a weary voice. "The good news is, I can change you back."
The Vulcan interrupted, "Doctor McCoy and I were able to devise a method of DNA re-sequencing based on a comparitive analysis between your current genetic structure and your most recent genetic scans before the mission. Using your last physical as a baseline, we were able to develop a three-step procedure consisting of..."
"Dammit, Spock!" the Doctor cut her off. "My sickbay, my patient. I do the talking," he snaps at her tersly. "...no matter how fuckable you look in that goddamn skirt," he adds under his breath. Spock says nothing else, but arches a feminine eyebrow in his direction.
"So, when can I start the treatment, Doc?" you ask.
"Well, I would start it right away, except... well, here's the complicated part," he says with a look of concern in his eyes. The nurse looks at him and then back at you with a weird expression on her face. It looks like joyfulness mixed with worry as if something both wonderful and terrible has happened at the same time.
"What is it?" you ask both of them, anxious for an answer.
"You're pregnant," he finally says flatly.
Your heart drops into your stomach. Pregnant? How! Your mind begins to race, searching for answers. Panic fills your eyes as your mouth tries to form a wordless question. The nurse, looking very sympathetic, places her hand over yours reassuringly. The gentle touch helps to calm your nerves, and some of the panic begins to subside. After giving you a few moments to process the initial shock, the Doctor continues.
"As best as I can figure, the transformation process you all went through intentionally creates a hormonal imbalance. When transformed into a man, like Calhoun, it causes an irrestible urge to mate. When transormed into a woman, like you, it exponentially increases fertility. This imbalance levels off pretty quickly, but by that time the deed had already been done." Out of the corner of your eye, you see Calhoun guiltily turning his head away while Patterson stared in disbelief as the Doctor continues. "If we start the procedure to transform you back, it will automatically terminate the pregnancy without any further complications. But as a doctor, I have to give you all the options. Medically, you're a perfectly healthy woman in the earliest stages of pregnancy, and there's no physical reason why you can't carry a child to term. If that's what you want to do, then we can wait until after you give birth to do the procedure assuming you'll still want to change back by then. You don't have to make any decisions right now. When you're ready, we'll proceed however you want."
You thought your head was spinning before, but now it's gone full tilt. You really wish the Doctor had just started the procedure anyway without telling you about this. It would have been so much easier. The idea of staying a woman long enough to give birth seems absolutely insane, but something inside of you is holding you back from telling the Doctor to start the procedure now. Instinctively, you touch your belly where you've just been told a new life is beginning to form. "I need some time to think," you finally manage to say. The Doctor nods understandingly, and he, the nurse, and the Vulcan turn and begin to walk away.
"...Doctor?" Patterson spoke up, her voice sounding oddly both hesitant and hopeful.
"Yes, Crewman?" he responds as he stops and turns to face her.
"If Doe wants to change back into a man, then could I carry the baby to term?" Everyone's eyes are fixed on Patterson now, and Calhoun's jaw hangs open in surprise as she continues. "Doctor, you remember how I was on that fertility medication several months ago, right?"
"Patty?!" Calhoun interjected with a half-shout, half-whisper as if she was saying something she should be keeping secret.
"Hey, I was mad at you and I was trying to get knocked up and make you jealous, but that's all in the past now. Just be glad it didn't work," she says to Calhoun before turning back to the Doctor. "Anyway, Doctor, you remember how that fertility medication interacted with that half-baked antidote you cooked up when the whole crew was going crazy and ended up making me sterile, right?"
The Doctor doesn't say anything, but you can see from the expression on his face that she's right on the money.
"But when you examined me, you told me I could still carry, I just can't conceive, right?" she asks.
He nods.
"Well, when that happened, I realized I didn't know how much I wanted a child until I was told I couldn't have one. So, Doctor, if Doe doesn't want this baby, Cally's baby, then I do. If Doe agrees, is that possible?"
"Well, it's... an option I hadn't considered," the Doctor answered, obviously taken aback by the question. "but that decision is for Crewman Doe to make." He turns to you now and asks, "It's up to you, Doe. What do you want to do?"
