Shopping

After a quick breakfast, the two of you get cleaned up and dressed for the day. Mazzy is practically buzzing in excitement as you climb into the car and head out. You warn her that it’s just a grocery store, nothing particularly exciting, but she shrugs it off.

“I have so many ideas, Brian! We’ll be eating so good, just wait and see.”

You smile. “Just remember, I only have so much space, so don’t go too crazy. It’s just the two of us, after all!”

Mazzy grins. “True enough. Hey, didn’t you tell me that your friend wanted to meet me?”

You nod. “Dave, yeah. I figured you might want a day or two to adjust before you meet more people.”

Mazzy shrugs. “If he’s your friend, and he suggested you meet me, then he’s probably not going to freak out when he sees me. Maybe you should invite him over for dinner tomorrow, I can make a big meal!”

You think about it for a minute. “Not a bad plan, actually. I’ll get in touch with him later.”

As you pull into the parking lot, Mazzy touches your arm. “I’m going to say this a lot, but I’m glad you and I are together. I knew as soon as I saw you that you were the right one for me.”

You smile at her, and she continues with a grin. “And last night only proved it to me!”

You blush, chuckling. “It was wonderful, and you’re a delight, Mazzy. Now, let’s do some grocery shopping before you jump me in public!”

Mazzy laughs. “Now now, I have SOME restraint. I’d pull you somewhere private first!”

Both of you laugh, getting out of the car and heading inside. Mazzy takes your hand as you walk, her purple eyes sparkling in the sun as she looks around in excitement. You grab a cart, and Mazzy skips alongside you, as happy as can be. There’s quite a few people here today, and you definitely notice a few people staring at the halfling beside you. Mostly the looks are curious, and you catch a few people smiling at the sight of her, but you also see more then a few scowls and disapproving head shakes, mostly from older folks.

Mazzy seems mostly unaware of the attention, rattling off a list of ingredients to slowly fill your cart. As you move through the store, she occasionally stops to gaze in wonder at the selection available, before once again grabbing what she needs. Before too long, the cart is fully loaded, and Mazzy looks at you with a wide smile.

“That’s everything!”

You look at the load in the cart, chuckling. “I have no idea where we’ll store all this…”

Mazzy shrugs. “You’ll figure it out!”

You lean down to give her a peck on the cheek, and she smiles happily. Unfortunately, behind you there’s the sound of someone else, who is less pleased with the display of affection. You hear someone scoff, and you turn to see a middle aged woman glaring, hands on her hips.

“It’s bad enough you brought your little pet in here, but we shouldn’t have to see that!”

You look at the woman, then sigh. “Mazzy is not a pet, she’s a woman.”

The lady rolls her eyes. “Whatever. There are children here, they shouldn’t have to witness your deviant behavior! It has no business here!”

You start to respond, but Mazzy touches your arm. “It’s not worth it, Brian. Let’s just leave, we’re finished anyway.”

You look at her, and sigh. “You’re right. Look lady, we’re leaving. You’re wrong, but you’re not worth the aggravation.”

With that, you turn on your heel and leave before she can respond, though you can hear her grumbling as you and Mazzy walk towards the registers. Mazzy smiles at you. “We don’t need to fight every battle. I don’t care what others think of us, as long as you treat me like you have.”

You nod, happy that she isn’t hurt by the lady’s reaction. You know Mazzy is right, as well. What matters is that she’s happy.
