She wakes up (in the future)

Dana stirred awake, feeling extremely tired and sore all over. She opened her eyes and found herself in ramshackle apartment. Gabriel was sitting in a chair, operating some kind of computer terminal. There was something off about it, but she couldn't put a finger on it in her tired state.

She tried to sit up, and let out a groan as her body didn't want to cooperate. She eventually settled for leaning against the wall, using the blanket to cover her naked body.

"Don't stress yourself.", said Gabriel. "You've been asleep for a long time. It'll take some time to get back to normal again."

She agreed - she felt very fatigued, like she had run a marathon without a stop. "What happened to Amanda?", she managed to ask.

"The devil still has her.", Gabriel said with a sombre expression. "Just like you, he's using her to fuel his rule over this realm. I intend to rescue her - but for that, I need your help."

"I know I'm asking a lot Dana, but I can't save Amanda alone. I know it sounds crazy to ask you to put yourself at risk of capture - or worse - so soon after your escape. But it's the only way to save Amanda."

Amanda felt a surge of guilt as she remembered Amanda. She had put herself at risk to try and save her, and had paid the price. She felt a desire to help, even as her rational mind wanted to avoid any danger. Gabriel seemed to sense her internal conflict, and decided to switch the topic.

"There is something else you need to know. You see, it wasn't easy to find you. It took a lot of time. In fact, if not for the combination of full body status and your inner divinity, you would be dead. A lot of things have changed since the last time you were free."

Gabriel started directly into Dana's eyes.

"Dana, you've been asleep for almost a hundred years."

Dana felt a sudden sinking feeling in her stomach. A century? That wasn't right. That was impossible! She looked at herself in a mirror overlooking the bed - she hadn't aged a day since she was last awake! Was Gabriel trying to pull her leg?

Gabriel saw her looking at the mirror, and waved his arm in a gesture. Suddenly, the mirror turned transparent and became a window. She saw a vastly different city than the one she was used to - large floating signs in some kind of weird English/Chinese/Spanish hybrid, neon lights, a thin layer of smog, flying vehicles. Very cyberpunk, was her first instinct. She was speechless as she tried to take it all in.

"Sorry about that - I didn't know of a gentle way to break the news to you. There's not just visible changes either - many laws and society itself has changed. Thanks to him, this is a crueler and more ruthless world now. I hope to change all that - but I can't do it without you."

Dana sensed he wanted to hear her agree, but this was too much to take in. She decided to ask some questions first.

"Wait. Before I go out there, I need to know how the world is different. You said society itself changed - what's different?"
