“Oh no you don’t dear!” Xana’s voice is firm and strict, as she quickly marches up to her daughter and grabs her by the wrist!

“Hey! Mum, what the hell!” comes Dew’s angry reply, the young woman trying to escape her mother’s grasp, and failing. Xana must be stronger than she looks.

She looks at her daughter with a mix of anger and disappointment. “I will not have you shirk your duties and insult a guest! Why, do you have any idea how he could punish you for that?”

You most certainly do not know how you could punish Dew, but in spite of her rudeness you really don’t see how punishment’s at all necessary. She did call you a vagabond, but she’s also right, so you can’t exactly get mad at her for that. Dew, however, seems genuinely scared of Xana’s words, and is stopped dead in her tracks, shaking slightly.

“It’s fine, really” you attempt to interject, “I don’t think a punishment is necessary.”

Xana simply shakes her head. “I’m afraid it is, sir. Such behavior cannot go unpunished. What would the neighbours think if they knew my girl was disobeying a guest, it would be a travesty.” With that she begins to pull Dew along as she strides towards you, the young woman meekly following along behind her.

“Hmmph” Xana hmmph’s in reply to your idea. “I would have been harsher, but it is your right to discipline her how you please, I suppose.”

“Thank you” Dew whispers softly into your ear, hoping her mother doesn’t hear, before quickly hopping off you and rushing off to clean the dishes. You hadn’t actually finished your meal, but at this stage you don’t really feel like complaining.

“In any case, my guest, I’m afraid I have errands to run,” says Xana sadly, “but Dew will take care of any of your needs, should you have any.” She says the last part with a wink, leaving you no doubt as to her meaning.
