Chapter 14 by leroy leroy

What does she ask?

She asks for help in the kitchen

"Would you mind helping me make dinner?" She asked. This question had been expected, on the ship back you had heard numerous crew refer to how they were excited for home cooked meals and deduced that the Vikings still cooked for themselves most of the time rather than relying solely on fabricators. It was only natural to assume that your duties would include helping out with the meals. She could have just ordered you to help her, it seemed politeness ran in the family.

"Sure." You agreed and accompanied her to the kitchen. It was then that you were **** to deal with a rather severe issue. You had no idea how to cook. Adi was patient with you, seeing your incomprehension of the subject matter and you soon learned how to prepare ingredients for what she was making. A hearty meat and vegetable stew. The fact that both Lily and Gwen obviously kept their children meant that there was a lot of mouths to feed and Violet soon joined you after finishing some errands of her own.

As you and Violet settled down to work together on a native Viking vegetable that needed skinning she started filling you in on how the Viking training worked. It was very eye-opening.

"A few of the women coming in already have weapons experience from their mothers, but some haven't ever held so much as a carving knife. So, we teach as if everyone's starting from scratch." She was obviously in the former group "They're put into two teams of 20, either Amazon or Valkyrie. They have contests and sparring each week and at the end of each one they'll have a mock battle. The winners get the losers as slaves for the next day to demonstrate how real war works." She finished the veggie she was on and grabbed another one before continuing.

"Obviously, getting knocked up would interfere with their training, so any kind of sex is limited to their mouths." At your look of surprised that she was admitting a breach of the second major law she explained. "Technically they are actual battles, just ones where both parties happen to be from the same faction and happen to have agreed to the conditions beforehand. A lawyer would probably try to say we're cheating the spirit of the law, but we've so far avoided a challenge on it." You still weren't totally convinced but you were willing to let the matter drop for now as she went on.

"After the first month, things get serious. That's when the Jarl's start fighting each other. Every two weeks there's a battle between them. The winning Jarl gets the losing Jarl as a **** for the remainder of the training period. No conditions. They then also take over training for the losing Jarl's class. After two months of this it culminates in the last battle called Ragnarok. The Jarls who are left will be divided into two armies to face off against each-other. This time it’s a full battle. Real rules and everything" Violet seemed very excited as she began talking about this second phase of training. Adi had obviously listening and as she finished adding the last of the meat to the pot she gave you an explanation.

"Violet starts her training tomorrow. Lily hasn't lost a Jarl battle or a Ragnarok in 8 years so Violet thinks she's just automatically going to win again. I keep trying to tell her that the enemy gets a vote, but she refuses to listen." You could see Violet's eyes roll at her sister's butting in as she added the last of the vegetables to the pot. All that was left was to let it cook and stir it. "Anyways thanks for your help. I’ll finish this up and see you at dinner. If you need something I'll be here." Adi raised a bit of the stew to taste it then threw in more spice.

As you and Violet exited the room together she turned to you. "Well that was fun, if you want I can show you around the grounds." She offered, "Or" Her voice turned eager and nervous. As if afraid of being rejected "We could go do something else that's fun."

What do you do?
