She Pushes For A Little More
Indeed as I glanced around the space I found that while the fairer end of the gender spectrum was wholly underrepresented in this place. Not to say that there wasn't any women in here, but the more I looked the less certain I was that any of the women in this place, excluding us, were customers.
All the women here had the same lanyard around their neck that our attendant employee had. And they all had this kind of bored blase look to them as if being in this place was humdrum everyday for them. The guys? Well their looks were far more furtive and underhanded.
"An exception," Rachel muses, "I like that. Does that mean we can push the limits of things?"
"I think that depends entirely on what you're planning on pushing," he quickly counters, adjusting his weight and tilting his head just enough to one side to indicate that while he was having a whole lot of fun here, he absolutely didn't trust giving Rachel carte blanche to do what she will. Frankly the guy was astute. If I worked in or owned someplace Rachel was shopping I wouldn't trust for a minute.
But Rachel acts aghast, feigning utter pure white snow driven innocence in the face of his judgement.
"What exactly do you take me for?" she asks.
"A girl who is mischevious and more than a little naughty."
At that Rachel laughs high and tinkling, clearly bemused by what she aptly describes as, "Well that might just be the understatement of the century."
"So I'm right," he points out.
She shakes her head, "No, you're dumb. You're turning down frankly a fantastic opportunity."
"I think I'll have to reserve judgement on that until I find out what you've got in mind. So what is it?"
"It's nothing," she says dismissively, "It's really wholly innocent. Just like me. Just like my best friend here."
Her best friend? Well that perks up my spirits, brightening my smile and making me even blush a little which franky might be lost under the flush of all of this imagining and remembering that I've been doing since we stepped into this place.
"And she is, innocent," Rachel goes on, "Especially her. Wholly innocent, if you catch my meaning."
"Rachel," I hiss, a little humiliated at the fact that she was all but stating to this hot guy that I was still a virgin.
"Just speaking the truth," she plays it down, before turning back to him and dropping the final brick, "Which is the point. I mean we're here to pick something out for her. Something new. Something she's never had before. And there is just so much selection in this place that she's feeling more than a little overwhelmed, like she doesn't quite know what to do with it."
"I can make... recommendations," he offers.
"And while your recommendations I'm sure come from a place of expertise, I'm sure I don't need to point out why they may be more than a little uninformed.
"Look all I'm saying is that, before we pony up the cash, we'd like a little proof of concept. Call it a bit of a sampling menu. A tasting of the offering. A trial run."
Was she asking what I think she was asking? Did she really mean?
Clearly both he and I could barely believe it, but Rachel just shrugs and makes it explicit.
"Try before you buy?" she shrugs, "What do you think?"
