Chapter 123 by SG SG

Looks like Madison's out of the game.

She's not the only one.

Ross heard a loud crack followed by a thump and looked up. The stone was shattered on the floor next to the loose, disjointed form that had been holding it. He stared at her for a second, then pulled Madison over to the couch.

Realizing he was now alone with two inert golems, he took a moment to collect himself. Was this part of her plan? Was there another golem waiting to spring out of a closet or something? He glanced around desperately before his eyes landed on the TV. Andrew had stopped screaming; he was now slouched forward, crying in apparent resignation.

"Shit!" Ross cried to the empty room. He had to get Pat to call off her goon, but he sure as hell wasn't going to stick her original script back in her. His eyes came to rest on Madison's script and he scooped it up. Wishing that they'd thought to bring some modifiers, he eyed the collapsed form warily.

Madison's default personality was a sweet-natured college girl. He wasn't sure how she'd respond to waking up in a room with an inert golem and a **** victim on TV. He rifled through some cabinets and drawers, but couldn't find any scripts of any kind. He wanted to search the house, but was afraid of bursting in on Adam and causing the golem to kill his friend in reaction.

Ross was out of options. He swore under his breath and grabbed the walkie-talkie from the floor, where it had fallen from Pat's limp hand. He wanted to keep the TV on so he could see what Adam was doing, but he didn't want Madison's script to see it and freak out. He quickly pulled an armchair to rest in front of the TV facing away. This way he could activate her, have her say the phrase, and deactivate her without her ever seeing the television. As a bonus, he could keep an eye on the camera.

Grunting with effort, he dragged the limp, heavy golem up onto the chair. When she was arranged in something like a sitting position, he crossed his lips and placed the script on her tongue. He took a deep breath and spoke the word.

Pat's eyes lit up and she looked curiously around the room as her body reanimated. They came to rest on Ross and she smiled pleasantly.

"Hi," she said. "I'm Patricia! Who are you?"

"I'm Ross, Patricia," he said. "I'm a friend. I need you to do me a huge favor."

Her brow furrowed. "I'm a little confused right now, but I can try. What is it?"

He held up the walkie and spoke again. "When I press the button, I need you to say 'Adam, let him go'."

"Okie-dokie!" she said chipperly. "Where are we? Who's Adam?"

"I'll tell you in a second," he lied. "Actually, can you say "Adam, let him go and stand in the corner?"

She nodded and gave an "ok" hand gesture. He held the walkie up and told her that this was very serious and asked her to repeat his instructions.

"I'm not an idiot," she said with a roll of her eyes. "Adam, let him go and stand in the corner."

He nodded and pressed the button, then gestured to her. She spoke the phrase exactly as told and he released the button.

Behind her, Ross saw the golem abruptly take his hands off of Andrew's head and back away. Andrew glanced around in shock, speaking words that Ross couldn't hear. He stared at Adam for a second and said something else, to which Adam responded. He turned and darted off frame, and a second later Andrew heard a door open and frantic footsteps on the stairs.

"Oh, hi!" Patricia said eagerly when the ragged, panting young man appeared on the landing. "Are you Adam?"

What just happened?
