Chapter 31 by orangeorangeorange orangeorangeorange

How does Hana respond?

She's grateful

The moment the last word left Kevin's mouth, Hana lost her balance and staggered back. Kevin panicked for a split-second, before his new reflexes kicked in and he gently caught the petite teen in his well-conditioned arms. Helping his overwhelmed girlfriend—he hoped she was still his girlfriend—over to the bed to sit down, Kevin chided himself for not remembering how overwhelming receiving that much information was. After making sure she wasn't going to fall, Kevin took a seat beside her and awaited the verdict.

A few minutes passed, then Hana finally said, "I get it."

Kevin looked over at her with apprehension, his gut twisting itself into knots. "Is that a good thing?" he asked cautiously, drawing out his words.

Shifting her body, Hana turned her face up and locked her eyes on his. She looked tired and shaken, like she'd just lived through something horrible, which Kevin supposed she technically had. Tears welled in her eyes, but despite it all, her lips were curled up in a weak smile. "Thank you," she said in a hoarse voice, wrapping her arms around him and burying herself in his bare chest.

After a moments hesitation, Kevin carefully wrapped his arms around Hana's small frame, gently stroking her long blue hair as she clung to him. Eventually, he gathered up the courage to ask, "For what?"

The petite Asian girl pulled back, sniffling and wiping her eyes. When she was done, she looked away and said, "I... Let's just say that my life before you made the wish wasn't exactly pleasant. I don't really want to go into the details, but I'm definitely glad you made that wish."

Kevin was tempted to make a wish to learn what Hana's life had been like, but decided against it. For whatever reason, she didn't want to go into it with him, and it felt like a betrayal of trust to casually peer into her memories like that. Pushing those thoughts aside, he decided to address the elephant in the room. Unable to think of a way to put it more delicately, he bluntly asked, "Does that mean we're still together?"

Hana let out an amused chuckle. Turning to face Kevin again, she rolled her eyes and said, "No, I'm breaking up with the guy I've been crushing on for years because we have more in common and he has magical wish-granting powers."

"More in common?" Kevin asked, glad to see Hana falling back into the playful sarcasm he'd come to appreciate.

"You're a geek, and I mean that in the best possible way," she explained. "The you I knew was too, but he was also a jock and popular. There was always a gulf between us. He never acted quite the same when we were around his friends, or even just at school. You know what it's like to be unpopular and suffer from it. I don't just understand you wanting to get ****, I want in on it."

Kevin could barely believe his ears; what he was hearing was more than he'd dare hope for. He'd only ever dreamed of finding a girl that would like him for who he was, geekiness and all. Now a girl more perfect than he'd ever imagined was telling him that was why she liked him. Not only that, she wanted to join him in his **** on the popular crowd. Even with all that, however, guilt and uncertainty still gnawed at the back of his mind. Forcing himself to broach the subject, he asked, "So you're... okay with what I did to Jessica?"

"Well, I'm not exactly happy about you skull-fucking her less than an hour before we got together, although living through your memories of that was certainly an interesting experience," the Korean girl answered with one of her wry smirks. "I'm guessing that's not what you're asking about though. To answer your question, I have no problem with you mind wiping her. Honestly, I'm glad you did."

That was not the answer Kevin had been expecting. If he was being honest with himself, he was a little unsettled about how readily his girlfriend accepted, and even welcomed, what he had done. Without thinking, he said, "Hana, I pretty much killed her."

Hana put her hand on Kevin's and looked up at him comfortingly. "I know you feel bad about it, and that's sweet, but you didn't do it on purpose and it needed to happen. The bitch had it coming—both for how she was defying you and for how she's treated both of us. She's needed a new personality for a long time, and if it's subservient to you, all the better. It'll just make it easier to make the rest of them pay."

Kevin was shocked at the bitterness in Hana's words and how readily she justified what he'd done, then something occurred to him. He'd had to deal with Jessica and her clique for four years; Hana had been dealing with them for eighteen. The thought chilled him, but built up a burning anger at the same time. Searching his new memories, he confirmed that Jessica and her friends had tormented Hana since they were children, and that the him of this timeline had let it happen. He was surprised his adopted sister didn't hate him as well.

With a newly renewed thirst for vengeance against the people that had tormented his lover, Kevin placed his hand over Hana's and firmly pledged, "I understand. Starting tomorrow, we'll give them all what they deserve."

"Good," the petite teen replied, failing to stifle a yawn. Gesturing to her elaborate blue dress with her free hand, she asked, "For tonight, can you wish this outfit into my closet? It's amazing cosplay, but not exactly great sleepwear."

Kevin chuckled. "Yeah, I was starting to feel a little underdressed anyway. I wish Hana's magical girl outfit was in her closet." With his words, the outfit disappeared and Hana was left sitting next to him in all her naked glory. Cautiously, he gestured to the bed they were sitting on and asked, "Shall we?"

Hana yawned again and said, "Sleep, yes. Fuck, no. I'm exhausted." Removing her hand from Kevin's, she crawled onto the bed and under the comforter, adding, "Hurry up and turn out the light."

"I wish all the lights in the house were off," Kevin wished, following his girlfriend into bed and settling in behind her as darkness descended on the house. Her warm body nestled into his as he draped an arm over her small frame, everything feeling perfect—everything but the soaked sheets. "I wish the bed was clean."

"Jessica's going to be happy," Hana mumbled, already half-asleep in her lover's embrace.

"Hmn," Kevin groggily agreed, a content feeling of closeness causing him to drift off as well.

What does the morning bring?
