Chapter 19 by carnivorous cow carnivorous cow

Where does Druuna go?

She'll think of that later, right now she needs sleep.

The Finders Guild sounded interesting, but Druuna decided that it would best to get a room for the night before doing anything else. She could easily see the docks from where she was, and she decided it wouldn’t be too hard to find the inn once she got there, so Druuna started in the docks location.

Druuna walked down the packed city streets, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling settlement. Places like these had formed all over the world after the Great Disaster. Gas was scarce, so civilization reverted to using the waterways as the primary way of moving large amounts of items. Most coastal cities from the lost times had been destroyed by the Disaster, so isolated areas near the coast became prime spots for settlements. From what Druuna could tell, this city, like many along the coast, was an independent trade republic. While a far cry from the “Democracies” from the lost times Druuna had read of, trade Republics were much more fair than the tribal war chiefdoms in the desert lands. The city was run by a council of the wealthiest merchants in the city. Because they were merchants they encouraged the growth of trade, most of which came by boat. Hundreds of ships; everything from small fishing boats to giant whaling vessels crowded the shoreline. Goods of every shape, size, color and smell were constantly being loaded and unloaded around the docks. Sailors, pirates, fishermen and traders bustled over the wooden walkways and into brothels, bars, eateries and inns. All around the busy dockyards Druuna drew stares, whistles and catcalls from the lusty pirates and sailors as she walked.

Eventually Druuna found what she was looking for, a small adobe inn near the East edge of the docks with a sign depicting a mermaid in a compromising position. When she went inside Druuna found that the bar was packed with various seamen of all types. It took her awhile to locate the innkeeper, but she eventually did find him over by the bar. She sat down next to the man and asked “Erm, excuse me sir, but I was wondering how much it might cost to get a room for the night?”
The innkeeper, a squat man with a large red face smiled at Druuna and said “It costs fifteen caps to reserve a room for the night. Cheapest price in town.”
Druuna frowned and asked “Really? That’s a lot of caps. I don’t have much to spare…”
A large, tanned man with a thick black beard and a large number of scars tapped Druuna on the shoulder and said “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I hate to see a lady spending her last cap. You know, I got a room here. I’d let you share with me if you wanted.”
Drunna looked at the man carefully. He had thick, jet-black hair and a heavy tan that spoke of a long time at sea. A large number of scars crisscrossed his face. He didn’t look like the kind of man you should trust, but Druuna didn’t think he would try to hurt her.

What does Druuna do?
