Setting Terms

The Divine: The holy spirit of humanity given form. The church is their mouth and the knights their champions keeping the darkness at bay. It imbues those deemed worthy with fragments of power and works to guide and protect the faithful.

Imbue: The ability of those sufficiently blessed to use The Divine. The most well-known are the blessings of the holy orders but lesser blessings are performed often by the clergy in places of faith.

Knight: A highly skilled warrior typically trained to fight with numerous weapons and armor. Both on horseback and on foot.

Blessed Knight: A knight of one of the holy orders. Granted divine gifts and protection and entrusted with the defense of their realm.

Unblessed knight: A knight of one of the various kingdoms subject to the authority of their king or queen rather than the church.

The Devoted: The people of the land. Those who fall under the protection of the knightly orders. Blessed knights are empowered by their faith. The most common victims of monsters, beasts, and other predatory types.

The Frontier: A formerly untamed wilderness to the east people have gradually flocked to it for various reasons. Some to escape the laws of their home, others to find new wealth, their reasons matter not. The church has been hearing their calls and has finally decided to take action to protect them from what lays in the dark of the woods and to rescue those who can be saved from their depths.

Scourge: A member of a radical church faction seeking human dominion and the extinction of non-human sentient races to achieve that goal. Very rare due to the events of The Scouring and the Interdiction of Saint Solim.

The Scouring: The Scouring was the campaign against the Elven Kingdoms declared by Arch-Priestess Regina Felis IV which called upon the strength of all human lands in the face of the Halvar Heresy. The exact nature of the Heresy has been lost to history but it resulted in massacre and bloodshed that drew upon the strength of all Divine Orders and led to the Blessing of the Order of Julian after the Burning of Elas. The elves had no warning and were denied every rule of war. No prisoners. No mercy. No Respite. The only goal was their extermination.

Divine have mercy for what was done. Divine have mercy that it should never happen again.

Kalkoltac: The frontier orc term for high chieftain, leader of the tribe.

Kaltac: A senior frontier orc warrior with the right to become Kalkoltac

Kalis: Frontier orc term for a warrior in training

Kol: The goal of taking of territory but not people

Kal: The taking of people and territory

Herivig: The frontier centaur ritual of getting fame to attract mares

Vig: Translates loosely to 'honor' and 'points'. What centaurs are competing for in Herivig

Alabai: Frontier Centaur word for Aldev with dragon's power

Aldev: Frontier Centaur word for humans

Kalvishoh: Frontier Centaur word for non-wild orcs

Urahai: Frontier Centaur word for non-human but intelligent creatures

Tok'ol: Ritual combat. Defeated is enthralled to the winner until the following year or until Kalvor. Fought naked.
