Things go from bad to worse
Separated
Screams could be heard from a few cars ahead. A rush of people stampeding toward the Davis family. Without warning, they were consumed in the flowing river of people. Ollie managed to find his way to the roof of an SUV. Spotting Amy, He reached a hand into the crowd. Finding her hand, he pulled her from the stream of panicked citizens, and on to the roof of the car.
Ollie grabbed his sister. "Amy, are you okay"? "Where's Mum and Dad"?. Amy stared blankly into space, tears forming in the corners of her hazel eyes. Ollie repeated, "where are Mum and Dad"?. Amy couldn't speak. Instead she simply pointed in the direction of an old yellow sedan.
As the flurry of people began to die down, Ollie could see two bodies in the road. "They're gone" Amy said almost in a whisper. "What do you mean they're gone, gone where"? Ollie asked, the emotion beginning to catch in his throat. Ollie jumped down from the car, sprinting toward the bodies.
It became clear that there were far more than two bodies in the road. Ollie shuddered when he saw people laying motionless in the road, previously concealed behind cars and vans. He ran over to a recognisable figure, slumped up against the yellow car. "Dad"?. Tears began to fill Ollie's eyes as he saw the blood. He couldn't do this. Suddenly a wispy voice called out to him. "Ollie". Turning around, Ollie smiled, perhaps he was going to be okay after all. "Ollie", Mark called out to his son again, pulling him close. "I don't have much time" he gasped. "Whatever this, whatever is going on, is not how we thought". "They are coming quickly". "Take care of your sister, keep her safe", he whispered. "Now get out of here, RUN". He shouted with what little strength he had left.
Another scream filled the air, different this time, shrill, bloodcurdling. Ollie took one last look at his father, took a deep breath and ran back to get Amy. "Come on, we're leaving" he said, tears filling his eyes as he took his sister by the hand, running off, back the way they came.
