Seems like they did

Suddenly there was a deep rumble and the head chanter in an attempt to overpower the rumble, yelled in pure bliss "It's happening! You have done it, my bretheren. Soon Maigoth will be amongst us and these heathens will be quickly and thoroughly dealt with soon! Rejoice, your hardship and offerings were not in vein! They will bring us all the promised land!". Siris, who found herself standing next to the head chanter suddenly flung her fist against his jaw and nonchalantly knocked him out with one hit, adding "Please, be quite. You are uttering nonsense.". Feeling a sense of deep failure, Faye nontheless called to her warrior partners to spread out and focus on their own survival.

The group spread out and indeed focused on their own survival, before regrouping after the dust had settled, literally and figuratively. The egg had come down from the ceiling and rested in the Womb now. In its descend into the womb it had taken down parts of the ceiling with it, burying some of the Followers. Concerned with her own group, Faye yelled out to her fellow valkyrie "Girls, everyone ok? Headcount!". Jenna yelled from behind her previous high spot "Jenna, present." Faye then heard Siris through the dust "Siris, Lind, Ravana and Reana, present...ugh." while the hammer wielder and Lind were holding up stones to protect the twins that were kneeling under their protection. "Thanks guys." Raena said while Ravana slapped the dust off her clothing. Faye quickly and more worryingly by the second looked around for her last two teammembers. "Jess? Kris?" she yelled as the dust slowly settled and seeing some Followers scurry out of the Womb. Not caring about that, Faye yelled with more urgency and stress in her voice "Jess! Kris!". Then part of the ceiling that had landed vertically close to Faye was pushed over from the other side and Kris, protected by a dusty Jess appeared from behind it. "Kris and Jess, present." Jess and Kris smiled, seeing the relieve in Faye's face.

After gathering her team and making sure everyone was alright, Faye walked over to the egg, followed by the rest of the women. After carefully checking the 3 meter long and 2 meter wide artifact, Ravana commented "Well, seems it's a bust. Guess those Followers died for squat. And we woke up early and came here for nothing too.". Faye's omnious feeling still hadn't subsided though and she was meticulously checking the egg's outer shell. Ravana pulled up her shoulders, said "Seems we are done here." and walked towards the exit of the Womb. Raena first looked at Faye, then at Ravana and said "Sis.", but Ravana didn't respond. Siris patted Raena on the shoulder and said "Looks like Rav is right. Let's go home and have a hearty meal!". Raena didn't resist as Siris pulled her along, but did throw one look back at Faye. Jenna, Jess and Lind also started to make their way back to the entrance of the Womb, with Jess and Jenna discussing the whole event and Lind following silently as usual.

Then Faye felt a light touch on her shoulder and turned her head towards it, looking into Kris kind and caring eyes. The latter said "I don't think that there is anything special with this egg, Faye. Come, shall we not join the rest?". To accentuate Kris' question, her belly rumbled, making Faye smile. "I guess you are right." Faye replied. Her face turned serious and she added "But there is still this nagging feeling in the back of my head.". Seeing Kris' face turn a bit worried, Faye quickly smiled and said "Though I have been off multiple times before.". She then looked at the egg, touching it and continued "I think you are right. Come, let's join the others. To be honest, I am quite hungry too.". With perfect timing, her belly growled too, making both girls giggle, before Kris said "Ok, then it's settled! Let's fill our tummies until we can fill them no more and celebrate another score for the valkyrie!". Faye smiled and nodded decidedly, then both women followed their compagnions outside.

Just after the last two valkyrie had stepped into the tunnel leading towards the outside world, a shadow stepped from behind the egg. "Drats!" the lead chanter said as his fist slammed the egg, "Every time it's these wretched cunts that screw up our plans. If it wasn't for their intervening every single opportunity presented to them, this world would've been a way better place already". Then he leaned back against the egg with closed eyes and sighed "If they would only vanish from this world. I guess this egg is also a ruse. That book about this being the resting place of Maigoth seemed genuine though. Ah well, I'd better get working on the next plan to get rid of those darn valkyrie and their queen.". As he was saying all this, the egg started to flash with a red light. Then slowly the side became liquid and the lead chanter got absorbed into it bit by bit. Only when he was halfway in, did the man notice something was off and he opened his eyes. He tried to stand up or move his arms, but he couldn't even turn his head, yelling "H-h-hey! What is happening here?!? L-l-let me go! What the h…". Then is head got fully absorbed and the rest of his body followed, after which silence returned to the cave.

The red flashing stopped for 15 minutes, before red circles rimpled down from the top to the bottom of the egg and the outside of the egg slowly started to show humps and dents. Very slowly, over the timespan of hours, the surface of the egg was transforming and it grew limbs and something akin a head and multiple other extrusions. When the brain was formed, memories of 8 female warriors and an intense hatred for them roamed it and when a mouth was formed, an agonizing scream resounded through the Womb.
