Head to the elven town
Seeking Elves
Take and Malphiel head back towards the cave, but this time they take the other path which eventually leads to a large field. In the field there is another pond and a number of animals, mostly deer and smaller creatures are drinking from it. Take and Malphiel try to quietly pass by not wanting to spook the animals. There's a clear path on the other side of the field. About halfway though there's a quiet twang and an arrow bursts through the neck of one of the deer. The other animals panic and scatter. Take and Malphiel struggle to avoid the suddenly running animals. "Look out Malphiel cries as a deer barrels into Take knocking her down. Take barely managing to avoid being trampled by the rest of the animals and once the stampede is over she carefully gets up to see three elves. One wielding a bow, the other two wielding bone knives. "Who are you?" the one with the bow asks Take as Malphiel moves to ensure she's okay. The other two elves move to the still thrashing deer with the arrow in its neck and end it's struggles by slashing it's throat.
"Hunters? You could have gotten us hurt!" Malphiel yells and the bow wielding elf shrugs.
"Maybe that was the intent. We don't want outsiders here. Especially ones with wings like yours," he says pointing his bow at Malphiel who looks shocked.
"Wings like mine? What's wrong with angel wings!" Malphiel asks and the elf looks confused.
"Angel? What's an angel? I meant wings like lord Windgrace's," he says and the venom in the name makes it clear he's not a fan.
"We're not friends with Lord Windgrace. We had a run in with the Cult of the Beast just a bit ago. We were looking for help, do you know a woman named Nagi?" Take asks and the elf looks confused for a second.
"Wait... Are you... You're a chosen! You fought against the cult?" he asks and he seems suddenly excited.
"She'll want to meet you, come with us," he says as the other two elves return to him, carrying the dead deer. He turns and leaves back down the path Take and Malphiel were heading to and Malphiel looks uncertain.
"Think we can trust him?" she asks.
"I don't know, but we were planning to head that way anyway," she says and heads after him.
Following him eventually leads to the Elven... city? The place is a far cry from what it once was. Most of the trees are gone, the area is surrounded by barricades and guards watch from nearly every remaining tree. The path to the Forest's heart still exists beyond the city, but is now blocked off by a gate of bone and surprisingly iron latches. There are three small buildings set up and one of them notably has a sign depicting a coin. The other two are signless. The hunters with the deer bring it to one of the huts, while the one with the bow leads Take and Malphiel to the last hut. They enter and inside they find two figures. The elven chieftain, looking worse for wear. He has one eye missing covered with an eyepatch made out of a leaf and one arm in a sling. Next to him, is Magritte former now deposed queen of the goblins. She looks surprisingly fine, no signs of injury or wear. Her deposition must have been surprisingly peaceful.
"The new chosen, huh?" she addresses Take and Malphiel, "you've certainly come at a time. I'm sure by now you're aware of the general situation. Lord Windgrace deposed me, took control of the Goblins and started the cult of the Beast. He used the promise of restarting sexual relations with the goblins to turn many of the elves to his side and offered up as reward any goblins who didn't side with him during my deposition," she explains. "As a result the floor is in a state similar to a civil war or maybe a rebellion, depending on how you look at it," she says with a sigh. "What you see before you and around you now is what remains of both the goblins and the elves who rejected Lord Windgrace's new regime," she explains. "There's little we could do except hold out, but well... The arrival of a chosen can change everything. The last one proved that quite well," she adds and then in a quieter voice, "for better and worse it seems..." she mutters quietly.
"So... I guess now we ask. Will you side with us and help us take this land back from Lord Windgrace?" the elf chieftain pipes up, his voice sounds old, tired.
