Chapter 12
by TFwriterdud3
Are you ready?
See the basement.
You shrug, following the attorney guiding you back down to the first floor. Once you get there, he doesn't pause - instead simply turning to his right and entering a code onto a small key-pad near a door you didn't notice before. It beeps green, he pulls it open, and you pass through to another set of stairs.
Going down these stairs, the first thing you notice is that the clean modern lines of the house above have vanished. Replacing white walls and dark wood are blank swaths of unfinished cement lined with industrial-style shelving. Obviously Harold didn't care about this section of his property meeting with the gaze of outsiders. At the same time, however, you don't see what has Mr. Baxter so on edge about this place. It's just an unfinished basement.
As you begin to ask, however, he turns to look at you with a frown. "Okay..." he begins hesitantly, before taking a deep breath. "So - there really are no good options to start with here, and thus I'm just going to let you pick. Do you want to see the servants' room first, or the lab, or the... playroom. Whichever you feel most up to, we'll go to first."
The attorney sighs, looking more than a little bit uneasy to be down in the Rossum home's basement, and waits for your decision.
What do you ask to see first?
