Chapter 13

What do you ask to see first?
"Show me the servants' room."
"First off, I'd like to see where Harold actually had Eve and Lily stay."
Mr. Baxter nods, heading behind the stairs you've just descended. A roughly-forged industrial-metal door sits there, partially-hidden amidst the storage shelving, and he wrestles for a moment with the odd-looking hardware holding it closed. You have to assume it's intended for 'security,' as a thick padlock hangs loosely beside it. They're sometimes locked in, it seems.
Finally the attorney lifts the latch and swings the door open, revealing the true servant's quarters: a mostly-bare concrete room, half-lit by high slender windows. Only the most minimal furniture even says it's a room to be lived in - all of it clearly salvaged. The bed looks to have come from a hospital or nursing home's discards, while the table and desk were clearly stolen from behind some office building under renovation. It's universally shabby and in disrepair, though certainly still kept as clean as the rest of the house. Either Lily and Eve try to take care of their space for personal reasons, or they've been punished for failing to do so. Probably both.
How do you react?
