Search for a Sponsorship

A sponsorship will get you gear, experience, allies, and most importantly, cold cash. Of course, talking about sponsors and actually getting one are two different matters. Adventuring guilds typically have some recommended partners, but in this one's case, they're only tied to the local temple. Sponsorship from a temple would entail either an extended period of service at the temple or becoming a paladin of the temple's deity. While the latter would get you out on the road much faster, it isn't something to take lightly either. The oath of a paladin is an iron-bound contract made under pain of damnation. There are few ways to anger deity more than scorning such an oath.

Alternatively, you could search for a noble or even a private sponsor. Nobles always need things done and people guarded, so a period of servitude to a local lord or lady wouldn't be terribly hard to exchange for the funds for proper training. Working for the nobility could open opportunities with the high-classes, but your boss is likely to be insufferable. Private sponsors on the other hand, such as merchants or unaligned wizards, are rare and looked down on by the nobles. While a private employer is likely to be less demanding, you might end up having to do some dirty work without the backing of a blueblood.
