Chapter 5 by CherryRed CherryRed

What do her friends come up with?

Scissors

Sunny didn’t have to wait long, as Melvin and Earnest came around the corner with a book, a paper cutter, and a bunch of different types of scissors. Oh, she liked where this was going.

“Hey Sunny, you’re still taking that fashion class, right?” Melvin asked innocently.

Sunny rolled her eyes. “Yes, but what does that have to do with our project on Romeo and Juliette?”

Earnest snorted. “Absolutely nothing. We got distracted by this.” He held up a book about the history of scissors. “We didn’t realize there were so many different types, and we wanted to learn what you thought works with what fabric.”

Okay, that was more thought out than she had been suspecting. They might actually learn something from this.

Sunny picked up a small pair of kid scissors. “Obviously, these are for children. They’re intentionally dull so kids can’t get hurt too badly. They’re alright for paper, but lousy for fabric. A lot of thin and sheer fabric fray easily, so if you use these it’ll be a pain to use the pieces you cut.”

She set them down then picked up standard school scissors. “These are great for paper, but if you use them on fabric, they might pucker. Stick to using these for paper.”

She put those aside as well, then picked up fabric scissors. “These bad boys can cut everything from sheer fabrics to leather. If you go to a fabric store and want to get a yard off a bolt, they’ll use these.”

The boys nodded, as she handed the scissors to Melvin. “Can they cut through denim?”

“Obviously. It’s a tough material, but these can do it no problem. They can even cut through seams.” Both boys looked interested in that. “Is there a better choice for cutting through seams?”

Wanting to encourage them, Sunny dug into her backpack and pulled out her two seam rippers. She had them because she liked using her long and short ones for different projects. “These are seam rippers and they’re specifically made for pulling out seams. Watch.”

The boys moved to sit on either side of her. Sunny used the seam ripper on the side of her jeans around her knee. She explained what she was doing as she pulled a few stitches. She pulled about five stitches going up on both of her outer thighs, then handed them to Melvin and Earnest to try.

“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” Earnest asked after he pulled a few stitches. “I’d hate to ruin your jeans.”

“As long as you don’t go too far, I can just fix them in class next period,” Sunny assured.

Sunny’s attention was taken away from them by Edward appearing with a stack of books.

“Good grief, what is all this?” Sunny asked, getting up to help him. He sighed and sat down. “You know how we have that research project on laws to do for our government class? I found a few law books, and wanted to grab them before someone else did.”

Sunny pulled one on international law towards herself and opened it. As she flipped through, Edward noticed what Melvin and Earnest were doing to her jeans. He raised an eyebrow and they both wordlessly told him to keep his mouth shut. He did so, but had an amused look on his face.

Sunny also noticed what they were doing and was impressed how quickly and quietly they were working. If it weren’t for the fact that she could feel their hot breaths on her increasingly bare skin, she probably wouldn’t have noticed what they were doing. They were almost done, but didn’t seem to know how to get the band at the top to split, as it wrapped around to her zipper. It would have been too noticeable if they had gone from quietly ripping the seams apart on the sides of her pants to ripping her zipper out at her crotch. Taking pity on them, she closed the book and grabbed the scissors that wouldn’t be useful for their quest.

“Hey Edward, do you mind showing me where you got these books? I didn’t know we even had a law section. We can drop these off on the way.” Edward nodded, and led the way. As she walked, she didn’t feel like her appearance was too noticeable.

That was going to change.
