Scheduling

The line picks up almost immediately… but the first sound is a giggle, “Dr. Beaux's office, Like, Amber speaking. How can I like, help you?”

Fantasia Blackheart rolls her eyes, but ignores the valley girl accent, “Thank you Amber. I am Fantasia Blackheart, and would like to book an appointment with Dr. Beaux,” yes, she could have a flunky do this, but there's a couple reasons she does not. First, she needs to be likable, which means as much personal contact with the doctor and those around him as possible. Second, given that she's trying to work around Covenant restrictions, pawning this off to Lynnaris isn't a good idea. Third, she wants her own measure of the man and the company he keeps.

“We can totally set you up, sure, Fantasia. Are we looking at a standard transition consultation?” Amber assumes, based on the doctor's specialization.

“Actually, no,” Fantasia chuckles, “I like being me. I should have specified: I'm not after a medical appointment, I'm looking at sponsoring a super team, and he made the list of people I want on it.” Currently a list of one… well, two, as Blackheart herself will need to be in it for practical reasons if her goal, and the team's only real purpose is to evaluate and eventually obtain the services of the doctor… but still a technically true statement, and she doesn't need to be perfectly honest with Amber.

“Oh. Duh, sorry. Well, I can totally handle other types of appointments as well… what's like, your schedule like?” The two set a time, go through the closing pleasantries, and hang up.

That set, Fantasia unpacks, opening her purse, and pulling out her ‘business outfit’ - the black tophat, necklace, amulet, gloves, thigh-high boots, long jacket, and such, spending time getting it all on. Why? It's her hero gear: All of it enchanted for various purposes. The gloves are enchanted so she doesn't need to think about basic blasts, merely point and apply power to get an elemental blast (chosen by how many fingers she uses when pointing and applying power); the cloak grants invisibility if she wraps it around herself; the amulets provide a buffer against injury; the boots allow walking on air; the hat holds a bit of magic and a touch of spirit, tasked with keeping her mind free and able to act; and her dress… well, teleportation is tricky, but it's much easier when going to a prepared location - it's a panic escape button (sadly, the dress stays behind and she must enchant a new one). She enchanted it all herself, of course; anyone outside the family wouldn't trust her enough to NOT lowjack the gear (at best; outright curse it at worst), and inside the family… well, there's a reason nobody trusts the family name. But for now… the white sheep of the Blackheart family has another thing she needs to do:

Patrol.

Now, officially, it's illegal vigilantism. There's a reason cops get months of training that include fairly common laws. There's a reason police wear badges with their names and keep their faces visible. There's a reason police need to talk to a judge before they bust down someone's door to search the place. Ultimately, it's the same reason they wear cameras now: Accountability.

If a cop pulls someone over and just shoots them for no good reason, there needs to be a way for that corrupt cop to be tried for ****. There needs to be a way to tell the difference between a detective who found evidence in someone's house and a detective who planted it. When an enforcer of the law acts against a citizen, it is very important for society's long-term health to be able to demonstrate that it needed to happen.

A vigilante is accountable to exactly nobody. However, with the number of super-powered threats regularly facing the world, society tolerates them out of necessity… as long as the vigilante doesn't get too far out of line and veer into villain territory. In the meanwhile, a hero publicly seen rescuing folks and otherwise being helpful is popular and well liked… and today, Fantasia Blackheart wants to be well-liked.

So the good witch spends an hour chanting and drawing with chalk on the ceiling over the bed, pulls a broom out of the cleaning supplies (yes, it's archaic, but there is power in the old traditions, and it's faster to go by broom than walking on air), then spends another hour chanting and carving runes into the wooden handle with a folding knife. After that, she walks outside, broom in hand, and takes to the sky, heading for the town proper to go looking for trouble….
