Scarlet

Scarlet stared at the conference table in contemplation from the interaction that had just taken place, the sound of the debriefing meeting just a muffled hum in her ears. Had she really closed the latch out of frustration, or had she done so out of fear? Why had she been so afraid of him? He was locked in a cell behind a two ton metal door. Yet just by staring at her, he had made her feel powerless. Like an embarrassed little child.

A tap on Scarlet’s shoulder took her out of her thoughts and she looked to her right where her coworker, Parker, gave her a look of concern and mouthed the words ‘Are you okay?’ to her. She nodded quickly and diverted her attention back to the meeting, her superior Masey talking about the incident that had just taken place.

“Because of this incident, we will be moving Henry off of patrols indefinitely until I say otherwise.”

“I swear nothing happened!” Henry chimed in, clearly embarrassed that he lost his temper “I’m fine, it was a one time occurrence it won't happen again."

“That behavior is unacceptable. I'm sorry Henry but we need to take you off night shift if you can't handle your temper”

“But we’re already understaffed for the night shift, you can’t just take me off of it!” Henry was right. The amount of staff willing to watch paranormal freaks past 10 pm was already extremely low. The staffing couldn’t take another hit.

“I’ll have you swap with Scar anytime you need to do patrol duty. You’ll take over the cameras then, okay? And no one engages with Falls unless absolutely necessary, understand?”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Scar had been the nickname gifted to her by her coworkers. She thought it made her sound tougher, a perception that was needed if you were to be working in the prison industry. However, right now the last thing she felt like was tough.

“Alright, everyone have a good rest of your nights, make sure you get lots of rest for tomorrow.”

Everyone rose from their seats to grab their stuff and leave, Scarlet included. It was time to swap with the morning shift. Scarlet met Dylan, the morning security camera woman, outside of the monitoring room. She nodded hello while she used her keys to open up the room and walk in to grab her stuff off of the table. Before heading out, she glanced over all of the cameras, stopping on Falls’ camera. He sat on his bed and leaned back against the wall, but then as she looked at the camera footage he turned his head towards the camera in his cell, as if he was looking at her through the monitor. Scarlets face became pale with fear. Had he known she was looking? was it a lucky guess? She then remembered the dominating stare from his eyes when she was looking at him through the slot in his door, and how she felt from it. From here those eyes were mere dots on a screen. He was in a cage, and she was the one leaving him there to go home.

“Keep an eye on this one,” She told Dylan, “He had an incident last shift.”

“Will do!” said Dylan as she took the keys from Scarlet.

From his meditative state he could see Scarlets Aura, but strangely enough he could feel someone else's Aura. Someone he had seen a long time ago.
