Scarily well

Eris easily wins the next few hands as well and a small stack of Casino Chips start to pile up by her side.

“I must be getting the hang of this!” She laughs as she wins yet another hand.

“You are a natural!” Slickback agrees.

As the Dealer flips open the next set of cards, his eyes widen. It’s a 2 and an Ace.

“Miss, this is it! The best possible hand!” Slickback holds back a scream.

“Oh oh! How much should I bet?” Eris is completely blinded by greed at this point, stacks of chips dancing before her eyes.

“Well, I could loan you 100 chips…” Slickback trails off.

“Alright! I bet it all!” Eris confidently slaps her hand on the table.

“Of course.” The Dealer says in his same monotonous tone.

He flips open the third card. “Ace. I’m afraid that means you lose.”

“What?” Eris feels like the floor is giving way beneath her feet.

“And because it’s a match with one of the two cards, you have to pay double.” The Dealer adds.

Slickback turns to her with an angry look. “You just lost me 200 coins! That is 200,000 gold! How are you going to pay me back?”

“Umm…” Eris quakes in her boots. “I don’t have any money right now… Maybe you could lend me a bit more and I’ll try again?”

“Don’t be stupid girl. As if I’d waste anymore money on you. I’m taking you to see the Boss. If you can’t pay up, then maybe you can work it off.” Slickback snarls as he grabs her arm roughly and tugs her towards a door.

“Wait! You can’t do this! Help me!” Eris turns to look despairingly at the Dealer but he’s already staring blankly ahead, shuffling the deck of cards as if nothing is happening.

Too late Eris realizes she’s fallen into the Casino’s trap as she’s dragged through a series of staircases and hallways until she finally finds herself standing before a sinister black door with the words “The Fat Man” written on it in gold.
