Chapter 20 by zewesman zewesman

Do John and Kim survive the Asawaki twins' ?

Saved by the dunce

“This is bad,” John declared, “really, really bad!”

“I am aware of how unfortunate the situation is John. But instead of complaining how about we think of a way out it,” a calm Kim stated to John, who felt like a fool because of Kim’s words.

The twins began their unison attack with Mikuru forming earth and placing it into the tornado that allowed Miho to then launch the earthen boulders at John and Kim. John’s sword took one hit and they both felt the blow vibrate through the sword and into both of them as they held on to it. A second boulder hit the sword and cracks began to form.

“Shit! If they connect with another boulder, my sword will break!” stated John.

“I am aware of the situation. We must be prepared for what happens next.”

“Which is?”

“We must—” before Kim could finish, another boulder slammed into the sword and shattered it. The only thing that held the two to the ground was suddenly gone, which allowed the bucking winds of the tornado to pull at John and Kim. Both lifted off the ground and began to head into the tornado. Kim was able to dodge the various pieces of earth in the tornado thanks to her martial arts training. John, however, was not as lucky. He hit two of them, dropping his health down to a mere 15 HP.

“What is going on in here?!” came a voice unfamiliar to all four of the people in the barrier. They looked towards the fake doors and saw a man standing there. All four students gave the man a very confused look.

“What are you all doing here? This is time for studying, not play fighting!” the tornado stopped, causing John, Kim, and the boulders to fall to the floor as the twins were brought down gently by some wind.

“Who are you?” asked John. The other three nodded and looked at the man, waiting for an answer.

“What are you talking about John? You know very well who I am! Actually, I’m surprised you are here. I swore I just saw you at Hermes’ shop with your elementals. Speaking of which, where are they?” asked the strange man as he scanned the room, looking for someone.

“My…what?”

“Why, your elementals of course! You, they, and your guardian spirit were all at Hermes’ shop. I like to stop by there from time to time. I was surprised to see you there though.”

“Dude. I’ve never seen you before in my life,” John checked his stamina and saw he had enough for an Observe.

Observe failed. Dimensional energies are blocking all information.

“Wait, what?” John said in a deadpan tone.

“What is it?” asked Kim.

“I can’t see any information about him because it says he’s surrounded by dimensional energies,” John explained to the group.

“Ah that explains it,” Kim said as the twins nodded in agreement.

“How does that explain anything?”

“He believes you are a different version of you that he met in another dimension. Those magic users are extremely rare and sometimes can switch dimensions without knowing.”

“Oh shoot. Is this the wrong Ashcroft Academy?! I can’t be late again. I’m sorry kids but I have to go, have fun with your mock battle!” said the stranger as he rushed out of the barrier.

“Words escape me right now,” was all John could say. He had suddenly just learned that alternate dimensions not only exist but that some people can just travel between them all willy nilly.

Mihu leaned over and whispered to Mikuru who whispered back to her. The two then turned to Kim and John and bowed.

“We apologize for this inconvenience. You are not our target and as such we shall take our leave,” the two said in unison. John eyed Miho’s hand reaching over to her sister’s ass, where he thought she grabbed it. The two then headed to the classroom’s entrance and left at the same place they entered.

“I must admit, this is not how I saw this fight ending. I was pretty sure we were gonna die,” confessed John. Kim nodded.

“I agree that the fight was not going to end in our favor. Let us thank this stroke of luck and go about the rest of our days.”

“Yeah,” John agreed before he looked over to where his sword lay in pieces, “sadly I no longer have a weapon,” John said with a sad tone. His one weapon that allowed him to actually fight and his one way to become strong enough to fight on equal footing with any potential dangers were gone.

“Yes, you sacrificed it to save us. That was an honorable act, as well as you assisting me when I was in trouble. I will speak with Moira and, while my clan and her guild are not officially allies, I will see if she can provide you with a new weapon,” Kim stated to John.

Kim got up and headed back to her seat before leaving the barrier in the exact same spot she was when she first entered it. John sighed as he got up and made his way back to the table with his dragon egg.

“Huh, that’s odd. Your colors seem to be a bit brighter,” John noticed. He decided to cast another Observe on the egg.

Last Egg of the Skyreavers
Legendary Item
The last egg of the dragon clan Skyreavers, who were wiped out by an allied Abyssal ****. It has gathered nearby magical energy, increasing the pace of its maturation.

"Well, at least something useful came out of that fight. But I guess I should have it out of my inventory whenever I’m going to be fighting. I’ll have to figure out how to keep the egg safe while I fight though. Maybe I can get this egg hatched in the next few days,” concluded John as he put the egg back into his inventory and dismissed the barrier.

Once back in the real world he spotted Moira and Kim talking. The two turned to him when they sensed the barrier was gone and Moira marched directly to John while Kim followed her.

“What the hell happened Newman?!” demanded Moira.

“Did you tell her?” John asked Kim. Kim nodded.

“What Kim said is what happened. I made a barrier to test out some of my skills during my free period. I accidently caught Kim in my barrier and then these twin Japanese school girls broke into my barrier, which I had no idea was possible, and then we fought. Kim and I held them off until they combined their powers to make a nasty boulder filled tornado and were about to beat me and Kim after my sword broke when some dimension hopping teacher appeared and kinda-“

“Wait wait back up. A dimension hopping teacher appeared?” Moira asked as she cut off John.

“Yeah. I couldn’t get any information about him because of the dimsional energies around him and Kim told me what he was.”

“Oh Lady. Those mages always cause so many problems. I’ll have to inform the Order to keep an eye out for him.”

“Yeah. So, anyways, after he left the twins apologized for attacking us, stating we weren’t their targets and left, then Kim left, and then I left and now we’re talking,” John finished his recap of what happened.

“So you weren’t their target? Did they mention who their target was?” questioned Moira.

“Uh, they mentioned something about eyes. I have no idea what they were talking about,” John told Moira.

“What?! Oh no! Be on the lookout for them and call me as soon as you spot them, both of you! Here, give me your phones and I’ll put my number in them,” Moira stated as she took John and Kim’s phones and added her number to them. Moira then quickly rushed out with a worried look on her face.

“I wonder what that’s about,” wondered John.

“Most likely a closely guarded secret of the Order,” Kim deduced.

“You think so?”

“Of course John. Every guild has their secrets, mine included. I’m afraid I forgot to mention to Moira that you need a new weapon,” Kim took out her phone and typed out a quick message and soon received the ping of a message received.

“It is done. Moira acknowledges your assistance to me and also believes a replacement blade is the least the Order can do for both of us apparently unknowingly assisting the Order.”

“Thank you, Kim. I’m sorry for not being of more use in that fight,” John said in a defeated tone.

“You fought with honor, John Newman. I would be honored to fight by your side again. Here, let me give you my number in case that is needed one day,” Kim said as she took John’s phone and added her number to his contacts. “Until next time John Newman,” Kim said as she left the classroom. John followed suit and left, heading to his next class.
