Samantha and Ned, river rafting

Ned nervously shifted in his seat as the car climbed the steep road into the mountain. "Look, Ms. Williams-"

"I told you, you don't have to be so formal," the driver said. "Call me Samantha."

"Okay, Samantha, I don't know if this is a good idea. I've never been river rafting before."

"Oh, come on, Ned," Samantha said. "It's just a little river trip. I'll teach you everything you need to know."

"Why did you even invite me here?" Ned asked.

"I always choose this for a company trip," Samantha said. "But the others know about it, so they don't usually come."

"And you thought I should be included with a company trip for executives and officials?"

"You're a valued member of my team, Ned."

"I'm an intern. All you make me do is bring you coffee."

"Exactly!"

Samantha pulled into a small town that overlooked the river. She rolled down the window and spoke to a man by the entrance. When they finished, she drove up the road and stopped in the parking lot of an old hotel.

"Okay Ned, here's the plan: they're going to drive the car down the mountain while we head for the raft launch. We paddle down the river to the bottom where they'll be waiting with our car."

"How long will that take?" Ned asked.

"About a day or two," Samantha said.

"A day?!"

"Relax. There's rest stops and camps set up to get food and shelter for the night. I've been doing this for years. Nothing bad is going to happen."
