Chapter 5 by Blackskull Blackskull

What's next?

Sally and Jess on the case

Sally, now dressed in a grey trouser suit and white blouse, drove the car along a winding road past a forest, the evening darkening around them. Jess sat next to her, flicking through a thick folder of papers.

"Where did you find this suit?" Sally asked, "I would have settled for a normal pair of pants."

"In the lost property." Jess replied, "And I thought wearing smart pants with your sweaty gym top would look silly. So, this Roon-i-whatsit..."

"Roon-I-Hok Ruby." Sally said.

"Right. Someone's going to try and steal it?"

"That's what our sources tell us. And it would be a great embarrassment to our security services if that happens."

"Gotcha."

"Which way are we going? The satnav in this thing is impossible."

"I dunno, towards the city?"

"Get me the map, will you?"

"The map?"

"Yes, you know, the fold-out thing that tells you where you are? Never mind, I'll grab it."

With one hand on the steering wheel, Sally reached between the seats to the back of the car, where the map lay. She had just laid her fingertips on it when with a tearing noise the shoulder seam of her suit jacket split open. Sally groaned and pulled the map towards her, glancing at the rip in the jacket.

"Maybe there's a reason someone lost this suit." she tossed the map to the junior spy, "Figure out where we are."

"I already know, it's in my phone." Jess replied, then she looked down at the mass of papers in her lap, the open folder combined with the unfolding map. "Wherever my phone is."

"Maybe you need a map to your phone."

"I got it, I got it..." Jess pushed around the papers, causing some of them to fly up and obscure Sally's vision.

"Hey, watch it!"

"Sorry," Jess held up her phone, "we should be right at the... tree!"

"What tree?"

The bundle of papers in front of Sally dropped away just in time for her to see the tree straight in front of them before the car crashed into it.

The engine smoked as both women unbuckled their seat belts and got out of the car, Sally inspected the crumpled hood.

"That isn't going anywhere." she looked over at Jess, "Looks like we're walking."

"How far?"

"I don't know, check your phone." Sally huffed, she gripped the hem of her jacket and tugged it straight, a move she regretted as the rip in the shoulder lengthened, and the sleeve dropped lower, held to the garment by only a few stitches.

"See if you can keep your clothes on long enough to get there." Jess laughed, she turned and pointed along the road, towards the lights of a city, "This way."

"After you." Sally said, her eyes widening as Jess turned to lead the way, exposing the seat of her black skinny jeans, which had split open to reveal white underwear with yellow cartoon ducks on it. "Speaking of great embarrassments to the security services..." she muttered.
