Royvis awakens and begins his operation.
Demons, due to their weakness to the sun, are naturally nocturnal. Even though they live underground, they tend to sleep during the day. They even have a sort-of 'internal clock,' an ingrown ability to tell time wherever they are. As such, demons are rarely late for anything although they rarely have the need to make the type of plans one would be late to.
Despite this, you are awoken by Neir. He's shaking you.
"Ma'am, Please! Wake up!"
You slap his hand away from you and groan.
"Ugh, Neir what in Ifrit's name are you on about?"
"You slept in, my lady."
You quickly shoot up.
"What!? I did?"
You grab hold of your head when a stabbing pain shoots through it. Is this a headache?
"Good lord, what is this flesh doing to me?"
Neir lays a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Don't fret, my lady. The men can wait. You are their commander after all."
He then glances at something on your back.
"Oh my..."
"What is it?"
"I seem to have made a bit of a mess..."
You crane your head to look at your back. There are four long gashes running down the length of your back, no doubt made by Neir's nails.
Neir goes to touch one and you wince, pulling away from him.
"Ah, fuck!" You say.
"I'm... I'm sorry, my lady."
"No, no, it's fine..." You say, trying to ease his conscience. "Truth be told, I actually like it."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. If I would have anyone mark me like this, I'd rather it be you."
"That's... very sweet, master."
"I have it within me. Now, heal me, would you? It may be sweet, but it still hurts."
Neir closes up your wounds with a simple Cure spell, a pittance of magic for someone of his skill. It does leave four long scars, no doubt the first of many you will give this body.
You rise from your bed and stretch your limbs. It will be important to keep this body limber and in shape. With this form you only have a fraction of your speed and strength and will need to find new ways of dispatching your enemies other than fighting.
Before you depart, you clasp the star necklace around your neck. It is the only thing that the men will truly take as proof of your identity, for you would die lest anyone else wear it.
Neir follows you to the central courtyard of this cave system, once the town square of it's long dead inhabitants. Your men are gathered here, a group of 100 demons. The crowd parts for you. These are fine warriors and spies, all standing one or two heads taller than you are now. You beat down the ball of fear in your gut.
You are the commander.
You are in charge.
You are going to be fine.
You reach the front of the crowd and Neir quells the chatter with his words.
"Men of Tartus, settle yourselves!"
He gestures to you.
"I wish to make something clear before we begin the briefing. You may not recognize your commander but he, now she, stands before you! Her word is law, just as it always has been! Understood?!"
A murmur ripples through the crowd. They all understand.
"Very well!" Neir turns to you. "All yours, milady."
You step forward and address the men, laying out the plan in detail. Most of them already have some idea of what your saying, having been given some training on mortals and their society by the head office in preparation for this operation. Some don't seem all that confident.
One steps forward. His name is Hren, you believe.
"Master, This plan is... risky. Dangerous. Why not just attack the mortals?"
You reply with, "A solid point, Hren. We could do this. We have the numbers, right? We are the finest warriors in the realm, yes?"
Several of then nod in agreement.
"We could storm the gates of the Silver City and have them on their knees in hours. But when the morning comes? And all we have fought for is turned to dust!? What then!?"
The men seem to see your point.
"I'm sure that some of you are old enough to remember the Tragedy of The Blue Marsh. Where twenty thousand of our brothers and sisters met their end. Mark my words, that will never happen again."
You look Hren right in the eyes.
"It may sting your pride to admit this, Hren, but you cannot fight your way out of this. The very sun in the sky will reduce us to ash. We must... evolve. Become a new type of creature. It is the only way to survive. Understand?"
Hren nods.
"Good. Now, settle down. Interrupt me again and I'll see that you'll inhabit a mule."
The men chuckle as you continue. You give them various maps and charts to study and tell them to return in the morning to receive their new bodies.
