Who do you follow?

Rosie, Church Secretary, 18

Chapter 2 by arn83714

Rosie didn’t even glance up as the door to the offices at the church opened. It did that at least twenty times a day. She wasn’t exactly sure who it was, as no one had a meeting that she knew of, but she figured it to be someone simply visiting one of the staff members and didn’t bother looking up from what she was trying to accomplish on her computer.

However, she realized that she could not just simply ignore it when she felt the presence come right up to the edge of the desk and could feel a bit of a shadow being cast down upon her. She huffed out a nearly silent sigh and looked up and kept looking. It felt like she had to look up so high because of the height of the guy that she was going to tip her chair over backwards and fall down and hurt herself.

“Holy shit,” she muttered quietly under her breath. Not only was she amazed at how tall the man was, but she was also in awe of how attractive he was. Rosie had never been fond of guys her own age. She’d also never been fond of guys as old as her parents. This, guy, however, was just right. He looked to be mid to late thirties, which put him somewhere in the middle between her oldest sister, Lauren, who was 30, and her mom who was nearly 50.

“I was hoping to get some information on the church and what was offered here. I don’t need any pastor or anyone specific, at least if you can help me with that information.”

Rosie didn’t really know if he’d said that in a flirty way, but that was what it felt to her. She could feel that comment down to her core, which tightened and wettened in response. She had to swallow before she could get words to come out of her mouth. “Of course, I can definitely help you with that. Did you have anything specific?” She asked as she looked up at him, partially trying to be flirty, partially trying to act natural.

“I’m most curious as to the different ministries that you have going. Not only Bible studies and times for them, but also what kind of things you have for discipleship and going deeper.”

The way that man had said deeper again made Rosie’s core respond, as she took it as a flirtatious comment, even though there wasn’t truly anything to give her the impression that he meant it that way. It took her more than a few seconds to get herself under control like that, but she was eventually able to respond and give him the answers that he needed.

The man thanked her and then turned to leave, but before he could take a step away, he suddenly turned back and looked right at her, right into her eyes. “Do you have any recommendations of what is best at this church? I’m Titus, by the way.”

Rosie had to swallow again before she could respond. “I’m Rosie. And I’d recommend just about anything. The sermons are good, the Bible studies are even better, and the men’s group always seems to be crowded, though I can’t really recommend that from experience.” They both laughed at that.

A brief silence overtook them. Rosie wanted to fill it with something, but she was also scared of speaking out like that.
