Roger: Realigned Responsibilities

Roger shifts uncomfortably in his ill-fitting armor as the arch-imago leads the scum away. His uncle stands once the door closes, walking toward and looking out the window, out onto the city. "Roger...I'll start with this." He breathes deep. "I'm sorry. Despite the peace, I've been too focused on my duties to my people, and haven't paid enough attention to my family. I failed your father, for not listening to his advice, and causing him to...turn to your new leader for assistance. I failed your cousins, for not allowing them to follow their interests as more than a hobby." He turns to Roger. "And I failed you...for letting you fall into that thing's clutches."

"She's not a thing! She's more than-"

"Apologies." Roger is caught off guard by the calmness his uncle demonstrates as he turns to look at the newly-made woman. "I chose my words poorly." He steps closer, lifting Roger's chin. "You look even more like your mother, now..."

The captain blushes slightly, at a loss for words. "I..."

"Don't disappoint her, Roger. She wouldn't have wanted your hatred to blind you." He clears his throat as he returns to his position at the window. "I assume you're aware of what's expected of you in Riverbend?"

Roger grinds his teeth. "You want me to serve as captain of the guard, ensuring the peace and protecting from monster raids."

The king hums, shaking his head. "No, that's not it... The task I gave Sir Blackwing is quite difficult to achieve, especially with only a hundred or so people living in Riverbend. Speaking of," He turns, spotting the bag of silver the devil was supposed to take resting on the desk. "I will have the silver converted to copper for you to take with you."

"Uncle, you want me to help him complete the task?"

"No. You are to do no more to aid him than perform your duties as captain. However, I'm told there's another captain there, and he has specifically requested Lieutenant Belinda, so you will have some...'free time'. Outside of your duties as captain, as well as whatever duties you have from the Rose Empress... I have some tasks for you..."
