Chapter 12 by pad03 pad03

Time to go, right?

Right!

Annette blinked as one of the flies landed on her forehead, investigating her sullied complexion.

Maggots flew from the thick greasy mess in her hand as she swatted it away, the invading taste in her mouth felt stronger than ever, as she reflexively lurched over and spat out any trace of the foul zombie cum into the grass. Finding a dry patch of her blouse, she wiped her mouth once again and slowly returned to her feet, pulling her shirt back up, covering her thoroughly sticky chest. The zombie seemed well and truly down for the count following the Priestess draining it with a concerning enthusiasm. It barely registered her movements as she began to slowly create distance between it, peeling away towards the alley.

Peering around the corner, Annette was met with a horrible view of about twenty bodies strewn around the bloody, claustrophobic alleyway between her and the ever increasing noise of fighting from the town square. She was about to step out and begin moving through the mess when two undead emerged from open doors on either side. One of the creatures was unmistakably another zombie, covered in rags, much like the one that attacked her in her home. The other was something new. Clawed hands gripped the sides of door frame before a naked, tall gray woman with long flowing silver hair and deep cuts pulled herself towards the zombie. It simply stared blankly at her, expectantly waiting for something.

The female undead looked towards it and looked up the street towards Annette, who promptly pulled back behind the wall, heart racing. After a few seconds of waiting, she gradually peeked out again, just enough for one curious eyeball to see what was going on. Annette caught a glimpse of the silver haired woman snarling at the creature as her eyes, mostly masked behind long bangs, briefly glowed a bright purple.

It seemed to understand the communication, as it shambled towards the next house down and with a few aggressive strikes, broke through the entryway and out of sight. Turning away, the dead woman began to head towards the fighting, its movement was full of confidence as it moved through the scattered bodies, dragging one set of its claws against the wall until its legs stopped abruptly. Her head darted towards the left as her hair tried to keep up. Clearly taking notice of something in one of the houses, her claw left the wall and she began to use them to pry open the locked door, before she too, left Annette's vision.

Her brain tried to process everything she just saw. There are female zombies here too? Every creature she'd seen up to this point had been male. Was this female zombie _controlling them? _Was she responsible for the attack on Farfield? As much as she wanted answers, she knew that at this moment in time, it wasn't important. She had to get to the survivors and help them fend off the undead before they, and everybody else end up like the dead men ahead of her or the captured women behind.

Doing her best to filter out the stench all over her, she took a deep breath, rallying once again. The timing had to be perfect here, but it was almost entirely out of her control. She couldn't move quickly through the bodies and if either creature appeared, she would almost certainly be captured. However, waiting wasn't an option, she felt guilty enough for the lackadaisical attitude she harboured during her previous encounter...

Every hesitated second could be the difference between a life saved and a life lost. It could also be the difference between getting caught out in the open and crossing safely.

"Both of the monsters are preoccupied"
she reasoned with herself,
"Now is the time to make a move!"

Through the passage of ...
