Background:

The being known as Resheph was created in the celestial, tasked with working directly under the generals as an avenging angel and enforcer. That he took great pleasure in being allowed to **** his other celestials under the guise maintaining order.

When the schism occurred, he started out on the side of the traditional celestials, seeking to destroy the rebels. When the generals gave him the order to not kill but capture the rebel generals and bring them before them in chains he begrudgingly agreed. However, as he was attempting to find Pristis, he just had killed one of his couriers when he found an interesting set of documents. They covered various magics that were forbidden to the celestials, one of these was the ability to rip a soul from another being, and devour it to gain power.

This led Resheph to obsess over the idea, but knowing if his celestial masters found out he desired this gift, where even knowing about it could be grounds for banishment. So, he tracked down the Rebellious Celestial General, Mephisto, pleading to join his army, and be free to exercise this newfound power on the forces loyal to the celestials.

During the war he was responsible for countless deaths on both sides of the conflict, as he would **** allies if he thought it would make him stronger. This however was not enough to save the rebellion as they were eventually defeated and stripped of their rank and very being, now labelled demons, and cast into Infernal Realms now cut off from the celestials and the realm above.

Mephisto though seeing the threat Resheph posed, refused to allow him in his realm, Inpietas. So Resheph went to the one realm that had yet to have a king named, the Abyss. There he attempted to name himself king and formed a small cult of followers, teaching them the way of a Soul Devourer.

When Belphegor was announced as the true king of the Realm, Resheph objected but held back from challenging him as he realized he could not yet defeat him.

Playing the waiting game, Resheph and his cult aided others who would challenge the king, but never actually publicly admitting it. Always attempting to sway matters to a point where he thought he might have an advantage when he did offer the challenge.

That time came about twenty-five hundred years ago, when he saw Belphegor as weakened, caring for his family and heir and as such ****. He made a plan to offer a challenge to the king, announcing for it to be a month from the date. Then just days before they were to meet in ritual combat for the throne. Resheph did the unthinkable and attack the Royal Nursery, where children related to the king were raised till they reached adulthood. This was a strictly taboo move, as the young had always been off limits in their society.

During the attack on the nursery Resheph killed and devoured the souls of three of Belphegor’s child, seven grandchildren and eighteen of the staff, before the guards and the king could arrive a repel him.

A few days later when Resheph showed up at the coliseum for his challenge to the throne, instead of finding a broken man who had given up on life. He encountered the living embodiment of vengeance. Belphegor overwhelmed Resheph with sheer willpower, forcing the demon lord to his knees and begging for mercy. That day there would be no mercy for this beast that murdered the innocent though. In front of all that had gathered, Belphegor ripped Resheph’s soul from his body and held it aloft for all to see as it dissipated into the cool air of that evening. With Belphegor proclaiming that the cult of Resheph was now criminal and any that did not denounce their ties would face the same fate as their master. Further the name Resheph would be forever banned from Gehenna, as he was unworthy of being a memory.

Personality:

Resheph is a sadistic being at his very core as that was the role he was created to play in the Celestial Realm. He relished the opportunity to **** others in the name of righteousness, and truly believed he was doing it for the great good as he was loyal without question to the cause.

When the schism started, he fought because he needed to believe the other side had become evil. This played into a psychotic mindset, that had been drilled in that what he did to them would free them from sin, and the pain it caused. No matter how much pain he would cause while forcing them to repent.

When he found the scroll on the courier, he felt it was a gift from the creator, a sign telling him that he must save others by consuming their souls. It would purify them from their sins. Since the celestials would object to this, they must be evil, so he joined the rebellion, after they would allow him to complete his mission.

After the fall, he reexamined himself again and decided it was a test from the creator, Mephisto’s rejection proved this more in that it gave him the chance to go to the Abyss. Since it did not have a king, it must mean for him to be it.

Belphegor’s arrival was yet another test, and he would slowly take the necessary actions to do his duty. Seeing the fallen celestials breaking the rule of celibacy that was the rule before angered him more, as they were given immortally, and do not need children as that is a gift only the creator should have.

So, when he finally decided to destroy the false king, he would break him by taking away the false lives they had created.
