Rent a Movie

“Yeah, I can be over in fifteen minutes. How about I come pick you and we go to the video store one Oakvale and Vine? My treat, your pick ok. Then we can watch at my house, it should be quiet, my folks took my sis to look at some colleges, and will be gone until Tuesday.” You need not wait long before you get your answer.

“Yeah sure that sounds like fun.” She seems a little reticent about being alone at your house, but not very. She says with more confidence and bit of play to her voice, “come on over and pick me up.”

As soon as you hang up the phone, you rush out of the house and hop in the car. You rush over to the Ellen’s house. The sun is setting on your right, making the October sky ache in shades of red and pink. Mary is actually at the curb waiting for you to pick her up. You unlock the door and she plops down in the seat.

She speaks with venom, “you know they kicked me out of the house. It’s not like I had done anything wrong.”

You smile, “I can’t complain too much since they gave me another night with you.”

Mary scrunches up her nose, “your sweet,” and kisses you on the cheek. The two of you are then silent until your reach the video store, it is surprisingly empty; just the clerk with so many piercings he look like he fell into a tackle-box few kids running around trying find a way to sneak a dirty movie out, one old guy in the Noir section, and one fat middle aged woman in the romance section. Mary shuews the kids off as they repeatedly step in front of her try find some movies to switch or pocket a DVD should the clerk ever stop watching them, looks around the whole store before finally finding something to her liking.

You pay the man and make your way home to watch the movie. The ride home is mildly amusing. You and Mary have a gay time making fun of the people in the store. The as you move ever closer to your house, a storm grows, and by the time you are home it is a maelstrom. The two of you hurry into the house and then take time to dry off. You take some logs from before the bin next to the fireplace, place them in, and start a fire. After you are dry, Mary gets the movie out and pops it in the wide screen in the livingroom.
