Reinforce the Ram

"We have to break through!" Reyna broke from cover and grabbed one of the handles on the ram. You and Cassie followed suit. You lifted the ram with a groan and ran as fast as you could at the gate. "Again!" You and the rest of the soldiers backed the ram up and then charged forward again. Still nothing. "Again!" Once more you backed up, but this time, as you ran forward, the gate splintered and a hole the size of a bowling ball opened.

A mixed sense of relief, victory, and joy flooded over you for a moment that was over just as quick as it had come. Reyna ordered the ram to charge again. The next slam broke the barriers on the other end. Your company swarmed the gate as the right gate door swung open. You dropped the ram and joined the charge. This time, you made sure to stay at Cassie's side.

A line of IAA spearmen waited for you on the opposite side of the gate. Their weapons took down about half-dozen soldiers but your numbers continued to flood through the gate and push forward; you along with them.

You raised your buckler and felt a spear deflect off of it. Someone behind you shoved you and you found yourself toppling over one of the spearmen. With both of you now on the ground, you on top of her, you aimed the tip of your sword between the gaps in their armor. Their body stopped moving as their armor froze up, signifying a "kill". You were dragged to your feet by your team leader as the line of spearmen broke.

Something felt off about this. Maybe it was your inexperience but all of this felt... easy. This battle did not warrant a whole battalion of soldiers. Did Command really want this village that badly? Why were the Spec Ops here?

You pushed the thought to the back of your mind and followed Cassie down one of the village roads. Cassie tackled an IAA soldier to the ground and stabbed her with a dagger. Another soldier tried to swing at Cassie with their sword but you intercepted it with your own. Cassie leaped from the ground and tackled the girl. Instead of stabbing her, she wrestled her into submission.

"This one's yours, Myers. For having my back there."

The IAA soldier struggled to get free. She kicked her legs and tried to flail her arms but Cassie was much stronger than she was. You took your sword and stabbed her with it, making her your second claim.

"This way!" Two squads of UCA soldiers ran past you to the North East in a hurry. Cassie stopped one of them and asked what was going on. The soldier shrugged before running off with her squad.

"Wanna follow," Cassie asked you. Before you could answer you looked to your left and saw the familiar figure of Olivia running down the street with a different squad.
