Chapter 1244 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

React to the trap.

"Niki!" you call out, but you can't quite budge.

Suddenly, after a rumble, a section of the wall on either side of her moves. Horizontal columns not only slide out, but propel at alarming speeds towards each other with Niki caught right in their trajectory. It's a crushing trap! Her eyes widen and she gasps, but she isn't quick enough to dodge. Niki's speciality isn't speed. Both columns of stone meet with her in the middle, and they do so with deadly impact. However, Niki still stands. She squints down at the stone digging into her bare sides, but she seems to be fine. "Huh," she mutters before grabbing both sides to push back with all her might. With one final swing, they slide back into their corresponding slots.

"Ah! Are you okay?!" Eva shouts in panic as she runs up to grab hold of the girl's arm.

The rest of the girls release you as well as they make their way over to Niki.

"I'm all right. That did sting a little, but I'm fine. What a weak-ass trap."

I don't think the trap was weak. You just have a freakishly strong body.

Regardless, Amara places her hands open her midriff and whispers, "Minor Heal," as a warm sparkling light fades any pain the girl may have been feeling, as well as any internal damage perhaps unseen by the rest. As always, she takes in a shaking inhale at the sensation of the spell being cast. "A-Are you good to continue?" she asks.

"Amara, you don't have to keep wasting mana! I'm fine!" Niki places her hands on her hips and grins. "And people have told me before to wear armour that covers my whole body. What's even the point of that? This is raw sunheart power, right here," she says with a slap against her stomach.

"Even if most traps don't do much to you, maybe still watch where you're going," you say.

Niki laughs awkwardly. "Yeah. That was my bad. But here, let me go first. If there are traps here, I'd rather me trigger them than you guys."

The group continues a short distance until they meet the supposed dead-end. Niki places her hand against the cold, flat wall, but after a moment, turns and shrugs. "I dunno. I thought maybe it was a secret door or something, but I don't see anything."

Eva leans in close and gives the wall a sniff. "Hmm. I do sense some kind of magic here. I think she's right."

"Can you like... eat it?" Niki asks.

"Excuse me?"

"W-Well I don't know! I thought that's how you worked."

Eva stares at her for a moment, but then her eyes trail back to the wall. With a nervous swallow, she brings herself as close as possible. She stays there for a brief pause, as if she's working up the courage to do something. Then at last, she brings her tongue out and winces as she drags it along the stone.

"Blech!" She steps away from it quickly, spitting dirt onto the ground. "Ew, ew! Okay, no. I can't just do that, Niki."

You and the others poke around the area, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of button or lever to open the way.

Delphi flies down right in front of your face. "Hey, Kyle. This is gonna be a weird shot in the dark, but I do have an idea. Look down there." She points towards the floor. "Do you see that?"

Upon closer inspection, there's what appears to be a hole perhaps made by the rats. "Hm. You could easily fit in there, right?"

She scowls at you. "There's no way I'm doing that alone! Best case scenario, I run into some big rats or spiders, and even that could be dangerous while trapped in a tiny hole. And given who used to live here, I might end up face-to-face with something worse than a rodent. But you could come with me."

"Oh yeah. You can shrink someone, right? How many people can you do at once?"

"Right now, I think I can only shrink one other person. So it'll be you and me."

Amara brings her hand back through her hair nervously. "That sounds rather dangerous. Are you certain?"

"Maybe it comes out on the other side, and they'll find a button there," Niki says with a swing of her fist against the wall. It doesn't budge, though dust runs down from the ceiling when she does like a waterfall. Strength is likely not the best solution either.

"We can handle it," you say. "Delphi and I are both pretty powerful, eh? Demon King and Dark Fairy. Do it up, Delphi. Shrink me down, and we'll check it out. If it doesn't lead us anywhere, we'll just come right back and figure something else out."

What do you do?
