It took a solid half hour to get Makoto to finally give up.

She was intelligent and suspicious, which resulted in a hard fought mental battle. Hajime needed to reassure her of her safety multiple times, really play on her imagination to get her relaxed, and even have Ann join in on the induction to help get her calm and trusting.

But after what felt like ages, she was finally hypnotized. And with a simple swing, Ann joined her in a trance.
