Chapter 7 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

Now then, how goes the ride?

Quite informatively

The two of them were very quiet for the next while. While it was nice to not face questioning, I myself needed to get some information as well, so I took it upon myself to get the conversation rolling again. “*Ahem*, so, lady-“

Millana quickly interrupted me, “Lady Normn is my mother’s title, please, just call me Millana.” She was still blushing a bit, though I had to give her props for her ability to recover so quickly. "Though I do wonder how you knew who I was."

I considered for a moment what I should reveal, before coming to a good response. "I was blessed with the knowledge of your identity by my god. To be truthful, I know little more than what facts he decided to grace me with."

"And what knowledge would that be?" 'She's quick on the reply, I like this one.'

"My lord has informed me that you are Millana Normn, youngest daughter of Baron Norman Normn, and of course that you are of nobility. I apologize that I know little else."

She considered my response for a moment before continuing, "It is alright. You bring up your god quite frequently, you seem quite devoted."

I smiled to myself, as she gave the perfect segway. "Why of course! My god is a being to which I owe my life. I suppose that I may speak of him more frequently than other priests do of their respective masters, however in my eyes it is them who is strange."

She pondered my statement for but a few seconds before forming her own. "I suppose I can see your point. However strangeness is commonly being different from the norm, which would be you. I also suppose that most gods do not care, as long as they get devotion. After all, they have so many priests that they get quite a lot regardless."

"That is where we get to my current predicament, lady-" I cut myself off as she gave me a slight glare, "-Millana."

"How's that?"

"My god has no other priests." Both of the women recoiled in slight surprise. Before they had the chance to respond, I continued, "I am the first to be blessed with his grace, for he is newborn into this world."

Isabell stared into space for a moment as she mumbled to herself, "A newborn god?"

"Is that possible?" Millana looked at me with a face of confusion and wonder.

"Evidently so. My god was called to this realm due to the growing calamities that loom in the future."

"But I thought the light had already summoned a champion? The reports are mostly of victory, why would a god..?"

I put on a grave expression before answering, "The darkness is not the only evil in these lands. My god does not belong to the pantheon of light, nor dark." their expressions changed to pure shock once again. "The dark may be more known for parading their evil, but the light still faces its own from within. As well, serving them are their unmatchable champions, but tell me, who would defend you if they decided they craved dominion over this world?"

Isabell went pale and Millana wore an expression of contemplative horror. "That's not... They wouldn't-"

I cut off Isabell's statements with another somewhat life shattering decree, "I admit, that isn't overly likely. On the other hand, the light summoned these champions, what's to stop the dark from doing the same? The conflict would escalate endlessly until all that was left of this world would be the enclaves of both sides, the rest of us being taken as collateral damage or slaves."

Isabell seemed to be paralyzed, while Millana responded. "I can see the reason behind your words... perhaps I should speak with father on this subject..." She shook her head to remove herself from the grim thoughts I had worked hard planting her in. "Regardless, we have more to speak about."

'Quite the mental fortitude, to recover from your whole world view being put into question that quickly...' "I suppose we do. Do you have anything specific to ask of me?"

"You have yet to tell us either your name, or the name of your god." She responded quite matter of factly.

"Ah, I suppose I have." I took a minute moment to come up with a name for my polymorphed form. "I am Mathew Kiegan, and I follow Moged-Ruun."

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mathew." Millana still managed to maintain her noble air. "Moged-Ruun you said? Quite the interesting name, I shall do my best to remember it."

"I thank you, my only purpose is to spread the word of my lord, after all."

Millana opened her mouth to continue our conversation, but was interrupted by the voice of the young man. "We are arriving now!" He decreed from the front of the carriage.

What awaits our "hero" in town?
