Chapter 7 by crisdemos crisdemos

On with the quests, then...

Quest one: Guardian soul.

'Activate the item to start the quest.'

Well then.

As soon as you activate the guardian soul, your environment changes immediately. You find yourself floating in a strange white void, and a pop-up tells you that the tutorial has started.

'Welcome to your personal dimension!'

'From the moment guardian soul is activated, this domain-equivalent dimension remains active until the aforementioned item deactivates.'

'This dimension is considered holy ground for the user, so all angelic blessings will be applied and the three oaths will be enforced...'

Oh! So now you have all the blessings and oaths back.

'These requirements and their benefits will only be maintained in this space'

Well, that seems advantageous. Even if you're willing to abide by the oaths to a certain degree anyway, the new information you've gained about Ariel's betrayal has given you a new perspective, so being able to avoid the oaths whenever you want, even if you lose the blessings too, is a bonus..

'You will be allowed to choose three divine miracles, applicable only within this dimension.'

Okay, another bonus then, though you assume you'll be **** to do something for the miracles this time.

'Your domain has been invaded by a group of monsters. Defeat them and you will be rewarded with the first miracle!'

A group of goblinoids manifest around you. Goblins, orcs, ogres... There is everything. The environment has also changed, taking the form of a ruined temple. Interestingly, instead of being made of stone, it looks like a mechanical construction, as if you are inside a huge machine, even if the general shape is that of a religious building.

You instantly feel in your soul and core the imposition of the oaths, but also the blessings and their benefits. The first goblins begin to enter, and you prepare for the fight.

Knowing that you can't gain additional advantages as a ranger since you're not in a forest or fighting against elves, you make the most of your skills as a barbarian. You plead with all three spirits at the same time and begin your attack. You decide not to use your rage ability this time, even if it boosts your attack, since you might need it later.

Your bow and arrows do their job beautifully. Aided by the fact that you're fighting on holy ground, picking off the goblins one by one isn't too difficult, even when they manage to land a few hits on you, as your empowered regeneration and ability to inflict confusion helps you considerably. The last of them, apparently their boss, takes a bit longer to disappear, but you finally make it.

'You have successfully eliminated the first group!'

'You will be allowed to choose your first temporary miracle now. If you successfully complete the quest, it will become permanent. If you fail, you will lose it. At the end of this tutorial the received XP will be calculated.'

Miracles appear before you. You clearly notice the absence of Ariel's alma, which makes sense given the circumstances.

God's blade and Enoch grab your attention from the start. You had chosen the first in your talk/bribery with Ariel, but your circumstances were completely different then...

You suppose Enoch will be even more powerful now given your elven half. You decide to choose it before you can change your mind. You will have the option to choose two more miracles, so it's not like you missed the chance to choose it. Also, depending on the results of the next fight, you might want to keep what you have.

'Miracle selected!'

'Warning: If you survive this second round, you will have another chance to choose your miracles.'

Perfect, your conclusion of the mechanics of this tutorial was correct then. Okay, one down, two to go.

Suddenly, the goblins you killed have reappeared. They quickly invade the temple again, this time aided by the orcs. The former goblin boss is now a woman, but that doesn't make her any less fearsome, especially since she now stands next to a huge orc who seems to be the boss of the group of monsters.

As you might have guessed, the Enoch Miracle turns out to be very useful, and not just because of the massive 1500% bonus to all your stats. Not only does it give your satyr body an anthropomorphic shape, it also gives you a powerful aura of light that acts as a barrier to most damage dealt to you. It's been long enough for your abilities to cool down, so you activate them again, using rage this time. While that will lower your defense, you rely on your other abilities to help you, especially your regeneration, and it's not like the inability to cast magic slows you down too much since you not are a sorcerer.

Your arrows are now coated in your elven aura as well, so they do even more damage, and with your elven and satyr sides fully merged, any debuffs from your miscegenation are gone. So it's literally like a pure blood elf and a pure blood satyr were fighting together for the same goal.

Despite the added difficulty, you manage to take down all the enemies, even when the goblinness start resurrecting goblins left and right. She seems that she has become a shaman in the service of the orc chief.

'You have successfully eliminated the second group!'

'You can choose two temporary miracles now, which may or may not match your previous choices.'

You decide to switch things up a bit this time, going with Key to Apollyon and Mark of Submission. An error popup flickers for a moment just before the world freezes gray and you hear Farael's voice in your head.

"I just created a new miracle for you by uniting these two. From now on, any monster you mark will be subdued and enter here. Their level will be equal to the level of these domain regardless of what it is, and they will be immortal by default, resurrecting after for a while. You will be able to summon any of trapped minions here to your side. The disadvantage is that your domain has become your personal Apollyon, so being a half monster, you won't be able to get out either, and now a portal will appear in the location where you activate guardian soul. Luckily for you, when you deactivate the item you will respawn where you were. But only you will be able to do so as you are not a full monster."

Fuck. If you choose this miracle, which is now called Mark of Farael, you yourself will be trapped here every time you activate guardian soul, and also any hero or monster near your location will be able to enter through the portal. Well, fuck it. You will prove it in this last battle and choose your three miracles accordingly. So... Mark of Farael and Pure Land.

'Miracles selected!

'Warning: If you survive this last battle you will have completed your quest! Your Xp will be calculated and you will receive the last chance to choose your permanent miracles!'

Yeah Yeah. Go ahead.

As expected, the slain monsters respawn. The former orc chief is now a futa orc in the service of a huge ogre. The goblin shaman serves him too, of course.

Fortunately, your miracles benefit you in a way you didn't expect. Your Pure Land constantly regenerates your mana, which is useful since you're not using rage this time. At the same time, you notice that your new Mark of Farael has bugged the quest mechanic. Every time you hit 0 HP, which happens more times than you'd like, you instantly return to full health. Your 'personal prison' is resurrecting you as it's supposed to, since you're technically a monster trapped there because you also possess the mark. Even if being half-elf prevents your satyr half from being completely sealed.

Well, that goblinness shaman and that orc priestess keep resurrecting enemies left and right, so you figure it's only fair, even if it means it's impossible for you to fail now since they can never kill you...

'Quest completed!'

'Warning: You have been noticed by the gods! Farael, goddess of light and life, offers you one more miracle in exchange for giving up your earned XP!'

You laugh like a maniac. She must have really liked you! She is literally cheating more by herself than her two sisters combined, just for you!

In that case... God's Blade, Enoch and Pure Land.

"Besides, I'll give you my XP in exchange for that pretty mark of yours, beautiful!"

"Just for that, I will become your wife along with my sister Mel if you succeed in your mission, handsome!"

"I will only accept if you complete our quest!"

In that case, let's see what this sister's core is, right?
