Chapter 13

What's next?
Push the Button
"Anywhere in time and space."
"Yeah, but what does that mean, though?"
"It means, you tell me a time, a place, or both, and we go there. It's what the TARDIS does."
"OK. Tattooine."
"Not real, babes."
Ruby pouted. "How am I supposed to pick a cool planet to go to if all the planets I know are fake? So really, I can't go anywhere I want unless I pick up an encyclopedia or summat. And if I say 'take me somewhere amazing', then you're just picking."
The Doctor stood there, considering the statement.
"How about this: you pick a year, and I'll hit the randomizer and we see where we end up. Could be absolutely anywhere, but I promise you I won't know."
"Two."
"The year 2?"
"No, dummy, it's just a first digit."
"Ah, right, then. 2. Any others?"
"Erm, One."
"1."
"Five?"
"5!"
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"Oh! The number!"
"Not a number."
"You know what I mean!"
"Alright, oh. 2150, is that it?"
"Six!"
"The year 21506! Sounds spectacular to me!"
The Doctor tapped in the last number, then sauntered over to the jukebox.
"There's only one thing left to do to take off, Rubes."
"Oh yeah, what's that?"
The Doctor hit a button on the jukebox, and a song began to play.
Push the button
Push the button
Pu-push the button
Push the button
"Oh. My. God. I love this song!"
"Me, too, it's a classic."
I'm busy throwing hints that he keeps missing
Don't have to think about it, I wanna kiss and
Everything around it, but he's too distant
I wanna feel his body, I can't resist it
"A classic? It's not even that old!"
The Doctor raised his Sonic screwdriver and activated it, causing the lights in the TARDIS to start flashing through a rainbow of colors. "It's almost as old as you! And besides, I'm from the future."
I know my hidden looks can be deceiving
But how obvious should a girl be?
I was taken by the early conversation piece and
I really like the way that he respects me
"Right, so everything's a classic to you? Beethoven, Beat Music, The Beat, Beat It, Beat Pyramid, all similarly ancient?"
"It's all a matter of perspective, Rubes! I'm sure you don't think about the time between Mesopotamia and Egypt."
I've been waiting patiently for him to come and get it
I wonder if he knows that he can say it and I'm with it
I knew I had my mind made up from the very beginning
Catch this opportunity so you and me could feel it, 'cause
If you're ready for me, boy, you better
The Doctor grabbed hold of the console. "Anyway, grab the console and hold on tight."
"Why?" Ruby asked, following his lead.
"Because I'm going to"
Push the button and let me know before I
Get the wrong idea and go, you're gonna
Miss the freak that I control
As the Doctor sang along, he slammed his hand down on a big button on the TARDIS console. The central rotor started to go up and down, and mavity cut out as the Doctor and Ruby both began to float into the air, only the TARDIS console to keep them grounded. Ruby began to join in on the song as well.
I'm busy showing him what he's been missin'
I'm kind of showing off for his full attention
My sexy ass has got him in the new dimension
I'm ready to do somethin' to relieve this mission
As the TARDIS came to a halt and the mavity came back on, the Doctor walked over to the jukebox and stopped the song.
"That was wild!" Ruby said as she started to brush her hair out of her face. "Is it always this fun?"
"Only on a boring day. Usually we get lots of cool stuff to do outside of the TARDIS." He swung past her, only stopping as he reached the door. "But maybe today will be a lucky day for us."
He quickly opened the doors and stepped out of the TARDIS, leaving Ruby to follow him.
