Chapter 9 by christina_the_clumsy christina_the_clumsy

Venture forward or head back

Push forward down the hall

She moved slow, awkwardly shimming herself down the cramped hallway, but after a bit it started to get a little bit better. The dark hallway got a little bit higher, enough to almost walk, but the walls were still very narrow, to the point where Christina could barely move her arms. Meanwhile, the sound was getting louder, that odd laughter. She couldn’t pinpoint a source of the noise, almost like it was coming from the walls itself.

Her foot caught something in the dark, almost causing her to stumble forward. She couldn’t see what it was at first, squinting heavily to make it out. A small shadow moved towards her, entering the dim light that was coming in from a nearby window. It was a goblin, a green-skinned, twisted creature. Christina was no stranger to the small fiends, having had dealt with them many times before. They typically were scavengers, almost like rodents compared to their orc cousins. They were not known for their direct confrontation but instead relied on trickery and tactics. Based on Christina’s experience, you never encounter just one.

She kicked her leg, shaking the monster off her ankle as she tried to rise back to her feet, only to feel something heavy on her back. She twisted her head around, spotting another goblin out of the corner of her eye. She felt increased pressure as another one jumped on her, followed by a third. They were pulling at her armor, climbing over her, and one even pulled her hair hard. “Argh!” she howled in a rage as she awkwardly twisted her waist, attempting to throw them off.

In front of her she could see them, a horde of goblins crawling around, almost as if they had crawled out of the walls. “Shit,” she muttered to herself as she started to draw her sword. The narrow hallway made that difficult as her elbow collided with the wall, slowing down her draw. Her sword was only halfway out of its scabbard when she felt a rope wrap around her wrist. Before she could react the rope went taut, pulling her arm behind her back and sending her sword flying into the darkness.

Time is of the essence. How should Christina fight back?
