Chapter 708 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Crash another ball.

You drift down and land safely among the others--right at the foot of the metal beast. Of course, you throw off your hooded cloak as you do, and stand with your sword at the ready, dressed in a fancy suit with styled-back hair. Everybody stares in awe. One by one, they try to make their way out through the door on the opposite side of the room, though it seems to be sealed shut. They scream and panic in both fear and confusion.

"Don't worry! I've got this!" you shout. Do I though? This thing is tough as hell.

It lunges forward with a thrusting punch. Thankfully, you're able to dodge straight past it and slice up its front. You follow it up with a spin around to its backside for a second attack, and then a third as you slash over its shoulder. It may be hard to take down, and it may pack a punch, but it isn't all that quick compared to you. You're able to stay in close and land some attacks, though the individual spheres roll in to cover up the damage made.

This is going to take forever. I'll have to destroy like a hundred or two of these tiny balls just to keep it from moving.

"It's him!" Suddenly, RF's mother steps forward and shouts. "Demon King Warren is here with some sort of beast!"

"You bitch!" you shout back. "I'm here to destroy it, and then when I'm done, I'm saving your daughter!"

"You're here to kidnap her."

Aravor steps forward as well. "I know of your plan, Demon King. My auntie is correct. You're here to destroy our family and steal my precious cousin. At least let the other guests escape, you monster."

"I didn't seal the doors! Did you?"

"Well why would we want to kill ourselves?"

What is this feeling? Sure, they already don't seem trustworthy, and I know her mother was up to no good, but I have this strange sensation when I look at him. This... heavy sense of darkness. He's lying for sure. I know it. But that's not all. They don't want anything to leak out, and at the same time, they don't want to seem responsible, so they sealed themselves in as well, assuming Elok will spare them. That must be it.

You don't have time for chatter. Once again, the golem attacks, though this one strikes you with a glancing blow across your shoulder. You tumble to the side, yet still manage to lunge inwards for a couple more strikes with your magic sword. Thankfully you're able to destroy them at all. They have hardy shells, but you also have a mighty blade and ten levels of strength.

Just then, it starts to shake. The crystals glow brighter. It's happening again. You take a step back and begin to strafe, though it turns perfectly to match your movements. No matter where you go, it remains aimed exactly on you. It's also difficult to tell when it's going to shoot. It's like fighting an opponent with a rifle aimed at your head, and their finger is on the trigger. You wonder if it's even possible to dodge.

You look to RF who clutches her necklace hard within her grasp. "Kyle! she shouts. "I--"

"Stay back!" you shout. "This attack is devastating!"

"But then what are you going to do?"

Aravor turns his eyes to her--glaring.

The attack goes off. Just like before, each copper sphere ejects like a stream of bullets. You feel your heart skip, and for a moment, it feels like time slows to a halt. You move your feet to jump out of the way, perhaps using your magic boots for additional power, but it's simply too quick. There's no way around it. The barrage absolutely obliterates the tables and the wall behind you. With no ground beneath your feet, you feel weightless--****? You can't tell what's going on, because you feel no pain.

You open your eyes right as your back collides with the ceiling. You grunt and fall, catching the chandelier beside you. Huh?!

"What did you just do?!" RF calls out. "You disappeared!"

"I did?" you ask under your breath. What does that mean?

You descend safely back down thanks to your boots, and you land right beside your red-dressed bunnyfolk. She reaches out to grab your arm, but Aravor grabs hers just before she does, and he yanks her back.

"You know this man?" he barks.

"This man means a lot to me," she responds. "And he's no Demon King! He's a hero."

"Auntie. Get the rod."

"Oh, this one?" Delphi calls out from above. She flutters in the air above everybody else. From her body dangles several purple bands of energy, and at the edge of each one is a fragment of the rod now shattered into pieces. She tosses one of its ruby eyes down to the floor at Aravor's feet and grins. "You can have it back. Gems that small are beneath us."

"... What?! Who are you?"

You turn to Rabbit's Foot, staring her straight in the eyes. Then you place a hand on her shoulder. "We're getting the hell out of here," you whisper.

"After we destroy that beast of course," she replies.

"Of course." You smile. "And you know what? I love your red dress, but personally, I think you look better in green." In one swift motion, you grab the chain of her necklace and snap it right off her body. The metal links fall to pieces on the floor, and you throw the pendant down to crush it beneath your heel.

What do you do?
