Ka-ren the Barbarian - Episode 1 (Part 4)

KA-REN: -Okay, bitch, start talking.

CAPTIVE (crying): -It is a message from Prince Makrus of Tarakia for Princess Yaddirah of Bar-Kinah. I was sent with a group of elite Tarakian soldiers to give it to her personally. On our way we were attacked by raiders. We fought valiantly but were hopelessly outnumbered. While the rest of my comrades were being killed by the bandits, I managed to escape with the letter, to complete our mission.

KA-REN: -And how did you, a highly trained Tarakian soldier, get captured by two savages who barely knew how to use a knife?

CAPTIVE: -After a couple of days walking across the wastelands, I encountered a giant lizard. I managed to run away jumping off a small cliff, but I broke my left ankle with the impact, as well as losing my sword during the run. When the savages found me, I could barely defend myself.

KA-REN: -I see... -she stays silent for a few seconds, looking pensive-. But why would the Prince of Tarakia send a message to the Princess of Bar-Kinah? Their families hate each other, and their cities have been at war for years.

CAPTIVE: -That, I don’t know, barbarian. I am only a soldier. My duty is to make sure that the princess receives it. What it contains is not for me to wonder… But I know this much: it is an affair of vital importance for both Prince Makrus and Princess Yaddirah. Help me complete my mission, and you will be generously rewarded.

KA-REN: -By whom?

CAPTIVE: -When I tell the princess everything I’ve been through, and that you helped me take the letter to her, I am sure that she will be very thankful. And she has more gold than you could ever spend.

Silently, Ka-ren examines the captive’s ankle. As soon as she touches it, the prisoner screams in pain.
