Urban Legends

You head out to your Urban Legends class. Sure, it sounded easy when you signed up for it, but the five required papers as well as learning the historical backgrounds of each legend make the class challenging,

You walk into the lecture hall and take a seat. The professor picks up where he left off.

“Bloody Mary, a name repeatedly spoken in front of a mirror is believed to grant visions of the future from an apparition. A large variety of these legends exist across different cultures. The modern Japanese retelling, Hannako-san will be part of tonight’s homework.

Moving on, the convent built upon a door to hell. This legend has a great many variations as well, the most common being there are seven gates of hell with convents built atop them to prevent evil from leaking into this world. This has a bit of a local spin as the Hilltop convent is one of the ones sometimes mentioned in the legend. There are dozens of variations of this tale including one with nine or thirteen gates.

There are also objects of legends said to have magical powers. The monkey’s paw for example supposedly grants wishes, but they are doomed to go horribly awry.

A similar but lesser known tale is that of the vulture’s foot. The chaos vulture was an eldritch bird said to have changed the nature of animals around it. The subsequent chaos caused **** and misfortune, which the bird promptly fed upon. Killed by a knight templar who kept its foot as a trophy, the talon was said to still contain the bird’s power.

Wait, vulture’s foot? Is the bird’s foot you have the actual talon from legend? You need…

“Oh shit!”

“Mr. Capsten, is there something you’d like to share?”

The class stares at you. “No sir. I was just thinking about something I forgot.”

The professor resumes class.
