A new challenge

You stood outside the red barn where Harmony’s mother resided. Pinkerton guards stood carefully maintaining their watch as they guarded the red barn while you stood near the entrance with little Anthony in your arms Harmony and you had called for a doctor only to try and figure out what wrong with Harmony’s mom only for your worst fears to be confirmed.

Marie Ashcroft had no clue who she was much less any memory or any recollection of anything as if she had never existed. Unlike amnesia which you and Harmony had suspected this condition was different as the doctor had said she exhibited worrying symptoms they he had noticed more commonplace then he would like to see.

After dismissing the doctor Harmony had gone in an attempt to try and speak with her only for Marie to remain silent and unmoving. She only ate and slept which you were thankful for and while you could tell Harmony was trying to be strong you could see she was falling apart slowly but surely.

Anthony began to become fussy as he tried wriggle out of your grasp obviously the boy loved you but it was clear as day that he was a momma’s boy and didn’t want to be in your arms. Sighing you went inside the red barn. Looking around you saw Harmony sitting in a chair across from her mother who sadly still looked as she had from when you first seen her.

Her blond hair and white skin looked unblemished by time and even now you could see that clear as day anyone could see that she was Harmony’s mother however her brown eyes were devoid of life in the traditional sense as she stared straight at the wall behind Harmony and didn’t move.

You could see Harmony looked defeated and was close to tears when you stood behind her and placed little Anthony in her lap. “Tag.” You said with a little smile as you walked past her she gave you a small smile as Anthony began to giggle placing his hands in Harmony’s blond locks while you walked over to Marie taking a seat opposite of her.

“You don’t know me Mrs. Ashcroft but I somewhat know you.” You said softly looking at her only to see no reaction. “I’m your son-in-law you know I married your daughter Harmony you know.” You said again getting no reaction from the woman. She hadn’t even chosen to make eye contact with you instead remaining still as she continued to stare at the wall behind you.

Standing up you stood Harmony up before seating her in front of her mother with little Anthony in her arms. “This is Anthony James BlackThorn Mrs. Ashcroft. He’s three months old, an energetic ball of energy, a happy little baby and your grandson.” You said looking for any reaction only to be met with nothing.

Discouraged you could see Harmony was on the verge of tears when you saw Anthony began to become fussy once again. Sighing you took him into your arms before he began to fuss even more. Before he began to reach his arms out for Mrs. Ashcroft seeing no harm you walked over taking Mrs. Ashcroft’s arms and positioning them to hold Anthony before you placed much to Anthony’s delight him into her arms.

You smiled as your son explored his grandma reaching for her face giggling as she remained still. You smiled as you watched Anthony interact with Mrs. Ashcroft before you saw a single tear fall from Mrs. Ashcroft’s eye perhaps there was hope to healing her condition whatever it may be.
