"I apologize if you were offended when I mentioned 'tiger mom,' Mrs. Lee," Julie said after turning off her microphone to avoid a possible hot mic situation, "but it was a question I had to ask as a journalist."

"It is okay," Iris nodded. "You have a son, right?"

"Yes, so as a Chinese mother myself I understand wanting the best for him," Julie replied. "My maternal grandfather grew up dirt poor in the rural village of Penglai in Fujian province. He became wealthy through a chain of grocery stores in Taiwan."

"And you did good yourself," Iris smiled, "with your own TV shows!"

"Not as impressive as your son," Julie smiled back, smoothly transitioning the spotlight back to Jonathan. "What hasn't he done?"

"Give me a daughter-in-law and grandchildren!" Iris frowned. "Aiya!"

"Mom..." Jonathan whispered, hoping her what she said wasn't recorded or overheard by the audience.

"But it's true!" Iris sighed.

"We're going live in five... four... three..." a stagehand counted down, giving Julie ample time to turn back on her microphone.

"And we're back with Jonathan Lee -- Navy SEAL, ER doctor, and astronaut!" Julie announced to the clapping of the studio audience.
